08-09' Blackhawks (46-24-12) 104 PTS - 4th Seed In The West!

I hope the Hawks have enjoyed all this time off because starting Wednesday they have 6 in 11 days, including the start of the annual circus trip. The trip doesn't seem that bad this year, but it does go to Phoenix, then Dallas, then back to Toronto, then all the way back to the west coast for games at San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles. The eight-game trip at the end of January and start of February is much worse.

Not to look too far ahead, but I love the Hawks banking all these points now before they hit the road. Hopefully they can keep it up through these next few home games.

They are just [expletive] good @ home. Foley said last night that the Hawks haven't lost a game since March of last year at home (in regulation). Too lazy to look it up but was the final game against the Wings at home or on the road?

4-2 loss vs. Calgary on March 16 was the last regulation loss for the Hawks at home.

Now, I haven't been to the UC for a game in almost seven years now, so I'm sure others can answer this better than me. Is it a raucous type crowd when the place is full? Because we know all of this season's home games have been sold out so far, and most at the end of last season were as well. I just wonder if it's the type of atmosphere and really gets the players going. I know the building is huge. Just don't remember how loud it gets.

I haven't been to a game this year, but last year even when the Hawks were bad and it definitely wasn't a sellout, it was loud as hell. Can't even imagine how loud it gets this year, I'm going on December 26th though.

What is the music they play after goals? I like the goals, but that's an irritating sound when you hear it over and over.

It's a stupid song from NHL 2k9.

I will be up there for about a week around xmas and tried to get tickets for that game. It was sold out. And then my folks scheduled a family gathering, so I'm screwed anyway. Will have it on the TV though. :)

This is a really dumb question, but how does the points distribution system work in hockey? It's just that I've taken an interested in hockey recently, and I can't imagine how they do it. I watched the scoreboard on ESPN and it said

GP W L OTL PTS

13 7 3 3 17

for the Blackhawks.

Now, what's OTL? and how do you calculate the points?

Win (Regulation, OT or Shootout) 2 pts

Loss in OT or Shootout 1 pt (OTL)

7 wins is 14 points, 3 OTL is 3 pts, making 17

OTL = OverTime Losses, any time a team loses in overtime or a shootout. Those are worth 1 point, and a win is worth 2 points.

I think it's a little dumb, because then for some reason overtime games are worth more points overall than regulation games. I think that a few years back, the NHL awarded 3 points for a win, 2 points for an OT win, 1 point for an OT loss, and 0 points for a regulation loss, but that ended up being far too many things to keep track of, and really made the standings cluttered.

Oh I see, thanks for explaining.

I'm going to this game as well, just bought tickets today for my dad's X-mas present. It's my second game ever I went on the same day last year when Wisniewski beat the crap out of Tootoo and then blew out his knee. That was a fun time.

And Kris Versteeg leading for the Calder Trophy :) Let's hope Brassard gets a minor injury that puts him out a few weeks!

Song's called "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis

It might be annoying to hear on radio or tv, but trust me, it's really kinda fun when you're there and everyone's clapping, singing along, and dancing funny....especially when you do it 6 times in one night.

I was at the game Sunday night, my first in almost 5 years... the atmosphere now is, in my opinion, the best since they first moved to the UC.

Y'all need to get out and see it for yourself... and interestingly enough, tix for several games are going on Stubhub for as low as $7-8 a piece...

I'm going tonight. I think.

The last time I tried to schedule in a game around my work travel, it was NLDS Game 1. And my work trip got cancelled and I had to sell the ticket.

Really, really hope that doesn't happen again.

Boston is a good team. I hope the Hawks are flying again tonight like they were on Sunday.

It should be a GREAT game. Not a blowout fashion great game as we've been accustomed too over the last 3. But by good, I mean close and to the last few minutes good.

I just hope to God the Bruins don't get the lead early and make me watch their bogus boring trap defense all game, that is so obnoxious and negative fun to watch.

Hawks win 3-2.

Well, I'm glad I waited to pull the trigger on the ticket. Trip cancelled again, so I'll be watching at home. At least it'll be in sparkling HD. :D

Thank God that stupid ceremony is over. I'm all for honoring the legends... but don't delay puck drop by 30 minutes, start the ceremony earlier.

For those of you just now watching their first hockey games or trying to get back into hockey.

This has been an AMAZING hockey game just like I told Kujay it would be :)

Both goaltenders have been ridiculous, the Hawks have vastly outplayed the Bruins. The Bruins have perfected the trap defense and the Hawks have still penetrated it and had bad luck.

Hawks win 3-2.

I stand by it.
