Shootouts are only best of three? Wow that's lamer than I thought. I also thought OT was longer than 5 minutes. I've got a lot to learn.

I'm not sure why they aren't best of 5

Why do we suck so badly at shootouts? Why? It doesn't make sense. This team is all about offensive talent and ten trillion spent on goalies.

So many wasted points. This team is good enough to regret those later...

When we figure that out then we can figure out why the Cubs can't win in the playoffs. It's just one of those weird things.

I'm going to refrain from posting my true emotions on this game, and instead post them tomorrow. Will help with the whole "not wanting to get suspended" trend.

1. I think a lot of us can agree that shootouts are a joke.

2. The trap isn't a joke, it's just stupid and frustrating to watch, but in the end whatever gets you the W.

3. Nah, only Kerry Fraser was out to get the Hawks and that was obvious. Refs were equally brutal both ways last night.

Yeah, the interesting thing about the refs last night was that they went back and forth being completely terrible and one-sided. I watched the intermission reports on NESN, and after the first period the guy was going off about how bad the refs were. After the second he seemed fine with it. And it's because it was a completely 180. The third was more even but still awful.

The game was very choppy at even strength because of all the penalties. I won't say the refs ruined a great game, because it was still great, but it could have been a lot better.

The trap is what it is. It can be beat. I'm not going to gripe about that. They bottled up the Hawks PP pretty well because half the time the Hawks couldn't even get the puck into the zone. They love to carry the puck in deep on the PP, esp. Campbell, and they didn't adapt to the way Boston was defending them.

As for the shootout, again, I don't mind it. If the game ended after OT, the Hawks would have left with one point. This way, we got to see a bit more action and the Hawks still left with one point. No big deal. I know it's frustrating. I was frustrated. But it was with the Hawks and their inability to win shootouts, not with the system itself.

Tomorrow night is a big game. I mean, for November. The Hawks have an excellent San Jose team on Sunday before hitting the road. So they really need to get the two points against a Blues team that has hit the skids. They will be finishing a long, cross-country road trip. They lost last night in a squeaker at Buffalo after giving up three quickies (and Legace getting yanked). Mason was excellent in relief. I would expect him to start. So, I know it's a cliche, but these are the types of teams the Hawks need to beat if they expect to make the playoffs.

Finally, as I'm clearly not into the whole brevity thing this morning, the ceremony for Pilote and Magnuson was excellent. And wasn't it nice to not have one of these ceremonies marred by the fans' unmerciless booing of a guy named Wirtz? And I thought it was the height of class for Savard to come back for the ceremony, and it was equally classy of Pat Foley to give the fans a few seconds to cheer him and of the fans to give him an ovation befitting all he has given to the franchise. Well done all around. Wish I could have been there.

No kidding.

Yeah, I'll be camped in front of the tv tonight. The bummer is that the CSNC feed will be blacked out here. So I'll have to listen to the annoying John Kelly and the not-so-bad Bernie Federko call the game. Oh well.

I have a [expletive] good HD stream that is .5 seconds ahead of Chicago TV if you want Pat and Eddie.

I'm gonna take you up on that for the Bears game on Sunday if it's available, but tonight I think I'll watch on the TV. Thanks though.
