Let's go Blackhawks! I can't wait for Friday, it should be a great season and they are going to help me get through the long winter before ST starts up again.

Hope to see you all in the game thread if you're all not doing anything on Friday!

I'll be around, but I think it'll be pretty quiet.

Really looking forward to the home opener on Monday. No doubt the Hawks played better last spring down the stretch when the house was packed every night. I think they'll have a much greater home advantage this year.

Yea I bet it will be slow, but I think we can make it catch steam with all the brainwashing we're doing to the Chicagoans to finally like hockey again :)

What does one say in a hockey gamethread? I mean besides 'GOOOALL' and 'OH WHAT A SAVE' :-k

Fights, sick hits... reporting goals/assists... nice saves by the goalie. Big penalties/scrums... among many others.

Power Play opportunities, who's doing well etc...

Will you be able to listen to the game on WGN's website like you could when the Hawks were on the Score?

I believe so.

Yes

I'll be listening. I haven't ever listened to a hockey game over the radio in my life, how is it? Is hockey much of a "radio sport"?

The Hawks PBP radio guy is one of the better announcers that I've heard. Unfortunately, it's had to be a radio sport in Chicago because of all the games that were on radio only. It's really not that bad to listen to on the radio.

And even more unfortunately, if you're talking about Pat Foley... he is now on the TV games :(

Wings and beer! Nothing better can come from a Friday night with the Blackhawks on TV, listening to Pat Foley... I am so excited! Only 2 more days!

Okay, quick question for any folks who have had Center Ice.

I have Directv now and the sports pack, so I get Comcast Chicago. I know if I didn't get CI, Comcast would be blacked out during the games. If I subscribe to CI, the games will be on the 770+ channels. But will I also be able to watch the game on Comcast? In other words, does signing up for CI lift those blackouts, or do I have to watch the games on the 770+ channels?

If you live in STL, my guess is you'd be able to watch it on CSN accept for games against STL. That's how it works with baseball now, although that is not how it used to work. I had CI once, obviously before they broadcasted many games, so it was pretty worthless.

I do not like how this goalie situation is working out. It seems to me that Khabi wants out, while Tallon and Savard are playing the part of the PR man acting as though everything is hunky dory. This could get ugly.

That's what I'm hoping. I've had CI before, but it was when I had cable and the RSNs (Comcast Chicago, etc.) weren't available to me. So I had to watch the CI channels. I know they are trying to put both feeds on CI when possible, but if they lift the blackouts for subscribers it's a moot point. And I'll get the games in HD. Except when on WGNA, because for whatever reason Directv hasn't picked that one up.

I hope to get into hockey this year now that it's going to be on TV.

My advice. Don't try to follow the puck with your eyes.

When you watch baseball, you can't always see the ball, but you can always figure out about where it is by watching the fielders and where they move. Same thing goes for hockey.

This is true. You'll learn to know where the puck is from the camera shots. And then after watching it enough you'll just be able to follow the puck on your own.

As it turns out, I'm not going to be on the couch tomorrow night watching the Hawks opener because I've ended up with tickets to the Blues home opener. Can't beat live hockey.

I played hockey in HS but have grown away from the game. I'm considering getting NHL Center Ice as I don't get any Blackhawk games up here in Milwaukee. Will they break my heart like the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Boilermakers?

Probably, but at least you'll get to see a lot of fights along the way.

There are only three words for this moment:

LET'S GO HAWKS!

Oh, and two more:

DETROIT SUCKS!

The Hawks are going to be incredible this year. Kane/Toews are going to be SUPERSTARS and they are now no longer rookies. We got a better goalie than Khabi, and improved our PP unit 10 fold.

I definitely suggest buying into the Hawks this year, this is the first time I can say this in a decade.
