I would have been more happy if he could have brought some of the Red Wings with him.

I'll jump on the bandwagon before the season starts. I watch hockey occasionally and go to atleast one Hawks' game a year. It's nice to have excitement again before an upcoming seaon.

Stupid question #1:

Is Havlat still on the Hawks' roster and is he expected to be 100% to begin the year?

Yes he is still on the Hawks.

About being 100%... I'm not even going to venture a guess on whether he is 100%, you can never tell with him.

I'm pretty sure the Hawks aren't counting on him for much this season even if he is 100%

Is he considered soft?

Man I wish Daze could have stayed healthy.

He's definitely been fragile. It's a shame too, because when he's at his best, he's one of the top 5 forwards in the league, IMO.

I don't think so. He gets hurt too often on the ice, but I don't think he's viewed as somebody who fakes injury or anything.

We'll see if I can catch some games this year. While in STL I get WGN, but a lot of times we don't actually get the Chicago games. If I get a few, I may try to watch, but its hard to closely follow four major sports let alone the three I follow now.

^Unfortunately, the 20 WGN games this season will only be shown on WGN in the Chicago market, not on the Superstation. So those of us in St. Louis and everywhere else are out of luck.

So here with regular cable we'll get the six St. Louis games and probably 3-4 national games.

Not good enough. Center Ice in HD is totally worth the $160 to me this year. Also, late last year Directv started offering both feeds (home and away) when possible. So we should get the hometown call most nights. Looking forward to the release of the CI schedule to confirm.

With Pat Foley back!

Wish we had Rick Jeanerette though.

There's no one I'd take over Pat.

Setting nostalgia aside, I wish we had Jim Hughson. But I'm definitely excited to have Foley back.

Does anybody have a clue as to when Blackhawks will get on the superstation? I know not this yr, but you have to believe John McD will try to get the Hawks on WGN Superstation as soon as possible.

really? rick jeanerette is my least favorite announcer in sports. his voice is so grating i can't understand how anyone can tolerate him, and on top of that he's not a very good announcer. there's being a homer, there's being hawk harrellson, and then there's being jeanerette.

i will admit he says a funny line from time to time, but it's usually only funny because of how ridiculous it is.

on havlat: he's considered injury prone, not really soft. i don't remember him having a reputation as being unwilling to battle for points/goals or anything like that, but he just gets hurt when he does it.

having trouble thinking of a really soft player off the top of my head...maybe marian gaborik? even that doesn't seem right...he's just made of glass.

For all you Jeaneratte haters... I LOVE this call:

- Maxim Afinogenov game winning goal Sabres/Rangers Game 5.

He may not have the PERFECT voice... but neither did Harry Caray and neither does Ron Santo...

If you didn't become a believer from that call on Jeanerette's calls then watch the following:

I'm really looking forward to this season. I might not be able to actually attend any games (that $8 deal has been awesome the past 2 years) as the Hawks are on the road during my breaks this year. Either way, I'm glad I'll finally be able to watch every game on TV. I think HDTV is going to help those non-hockey fans follow the puck and understand the game a bit better.

Regarding Havlat - I agree that he can be a top 5 forward in the league when healthy. That's why I'm holding out hope that he shows up and just blows people away. Add him to the mix with the kids and the sky is the limit offensively.

Anyone think Khabibulin will not be on the team to start the year? I know Tallon keeps saying they're going to use both, but I just think it's too much money locked into one position. I've got to think a team gets antsy and inquires about him, in which case he's got to be moved.

I'm sad that Wiz got hurt again, I was at the game where he pounded Tootoo after the horn, which was also the first game where they came to center and raised their sticks. Easily one of the coolest things I've seen at a sporting event.

I'm not sure that the Campbell signing was the wisest move, but we had the money and Hossa wasn't coming here. Hopefully this allows us to move another D-man (hopefully Barker, I love Seabs) for a top-6 forward.

rico fata & kessel

i don't like Havlat being called a top-5 forward, without the condition 'offensively'. there are many other players i would prefer to have considering their all around game. he is instant offense though.

fata isn't in the NHL any more and Kessel really made strides towards the end of last year. watching the bruins i never got the sense that he was soft...i think he's just in over his head atm.

What about Gilbert Brule?

Speaking of Pat Foley and pansies, how could we ever forget Alex Karpovtsev:

OUCH.

Yeah, it's awesome.

I remember folks saying it was over the top and choreographed, but I think it captured the frustration at the time with that dude and with the team.
