Rotoworld -- Needing to tweak their rotation due to Wednesday's doubleheader, MLB.com reports that the Cubs may give Jeff Samardzija his first start Sunday. Samardzija was a starter in the minors, but has worked exclusively out of the bullpen during his time with the Cubs. He'd face the Marlins if he gets the call Sunday.

Just found the same thing over at CBSSportsline Fantasy regarding the MLB.com report:

Jeff Samardzija, SP CHC

News: MLB.com reports that Cubs RP Jeff Samardzija could start on Sunday against the Marlins in a spot start necessitated by Wednesday's doubleheader with the Braves. Samardzija's last start was July 20, when he went six innings for Triple-A Iowa.

Analysis: Samardzija was 7-6 with a 4.29 ERA this season 22 minor league appearances, which included 21 starts. This start is only likely to be a one-time thing, however, so those 12 percent of you who started him this week could be nicely rewarded on Sunday. Samardzija is likely to start somewhere down the road, but remains only a middle reliever worth using in leagues that have use for guys with a role like his.

If it were up to me, I'd make room for Atkins on the 40 man roster, call him up for Sat., They really can't afford to lose Samardzija as a reliever for 3-4 games.

I don't believe the 40-man is full at present.

It will be once Guzman completes his rehab.

That's what I'd do.

This is why it's dumb that Hart isn't stretched out and starting for Iowa.

I'm not too familiar with Atkins, but I do agree with the notion that allowing another pitcher would be ideal here. Samardzija is doing great in the pen, and I just don't see the need to move him. We have plenty of other options.

It would freaking awesome to have flame-throwing Guz and Samardzija in oure pen for the stretch run and in the p-offs.

the p-offs

Yea, nice shorthand to save the time from typing 2 extra characters that are actually closer together than the dash.

Or it could just be what happens to me every time I watch the Cubs in the playoffs.

It would be fitting that he starts against the Marlins, isn't the Isotopes (the team he faced in AAA in what seemed like every single one of his starts) their affiliate.

Not sure... but it would sure be fun watching him face that Marlins lineup!

Yeah.

Samardzija won't be able to get his first major league start on Sunday. Lou named Marshall the starter, although both Marquis and Samardzija were both very willing to coming back and getting the start.

You'd think that since the Cubs got rid of Eyre they would go the Atkins route to stay healthy and lean.

Kevin Hart came up last year and posted a 0.82 ERA with 13K and 4BB in 11 IP.

Just sayin.

Kevin Hart came up this year and posted a 7.91 ERA with 14K and 13BB in 19.3 IP. (for those of you too lazy to look that one up)

That sucks :(

Shark will probably end up pitching a few innings after Marshall. Really, the only difference is that Marshall will go first.
