Rosa is a 1B playing 3B because Ridling and Bautista are on Peoria. Rosa has 28 errors in 98 career games at third.

Rosa's future is at third base.

And another walk for Cashner to lead off the 2nd.

Triple. Macias completely misplayed what should have been an easy out.

HBP on a 3-0 count. Runners at the corners.

Cashner pulled for Chris Carpenter.

1+ IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 0 K, HBP, 51 pitches (17 strikes).

So yeah, Andrew Cashner's control is now a major issue.

Has Smith played any 2B at any point? For some reason I thought he had.......

And seeing Cashner's lines tonight are extremely disappointing. Hopefully Carpenter makes up for it in a little bit.

He's not going to hit enough to compensate for that glove unless ALL of those doubles turn to home runs. I know he's only 20, but he's got a long way to go to be even below average at third.

He's going to have to make strides with the glove and power to actually make it but I don't think he has any chance at first.

Carpenter comes in and gets them 1-2-3 without any inherited runners scoring. so that is actually Cashner's final line.

Drew Rundle got an RBI double in the third but Josh Vitters struck out.

And Sean Hoorelbeke just hit a grand slam in the top of the 3rd and Boise is now up 5-4. And now Kyler Burke hits a monster shot to dead CF following a Keedy double. 7-4 Boise.

WTF??? cashner didn't have control issues like this in college.

Hopefully it's an issue of getting the rust off combined with their bus breaking down and them getting to the game late. But 2 straight horrid control games is not good.

Sigh.

I don't see MiLB.com having full game logs for players, but Vitters has at least an 11 game hit streak with that double. The guys a beast.

Huh, Chris Huseby gets the start for Mesa.

He's actually pretty darn good at first from a defensive standpoint.

Monster game for Drew Rundle...4 for 5 with 2 doubles, a walk and a strikeout.

Cedric Redmond followed Chris Huseby down in Mesa with 3 scoreless...2 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Man Rundle has been playing like a man among boys...

\:D/

He needed this. Build some confidence, let him move up to Peoria next year after finally hitting the cover off the ball.

Dug this up back from Rundle's draft on Brewerfan.net:

The fact that Rundle hails from the Pacific Northwest to go along with his natural athletic talent might draw a few Dale Murphy whispers. Rundle is the type of player that makes everything look easy. Just when you think you have found a weakness in his game, he goes out and proves you wrong with his play on the field. At the plate he has quick hands, good bat speed, and interesting power potential, and also shows the ability to make adjustments between at-bats. Defensively, Rundle has very good speed, a strong throwing arm and the ability to play any of the three outfield positions. Based on pure talent, he should be taken in the first two rounds, otherwise he may take his game to the University of Arizona.

He still strikes out way too much...29 times in 91 Boise at bats.

And 13 walks to go along with those. I'm not worried about the strikeouts.

If he keeps up his walk rate, he'll be fine.

Baby steps, raisin, baby steps. The fact that he's smoking the ball over over the field AND drawing lots of walks at Boise should be a big positive. He's also got 13 walks in those 91 ABs, giving him a .432 OBP to go along with his .352 avg. A very respectable .080 IsoD. How about his nearly (or maybe over as of right now) .700 SLG?

If he's going hit for decent power, K's will be high. If he can keep hitting, the K's aren't as much of a concern. I don't think he'll ever be a low K guy. I see him being a guy who can hit 25-30 HRs, play good defense, and hit .270.

Unless one of these guys is moved to a different position, we have a slight logjam at 3B right now. Lansford is holding everyone up as he struggles in AA. Smith finally got to Daytona at least, but he's not going anywhere higher until he gets hot again or next year most likely. Rosa is blocked by Smith and therefore Vitters is blocked by Rosa.

I'd like to see Rosa and Vitters find a way to move up within the next few weeks somehow, although short of injury, I'm not really seeing how it can happen.

Vitters isn't blocked by anybody but Aramis Ramirez right now... it's the advantage of a lofty draft slot. They'll let him play his way up and down, and not have that be determined by other circumstances.

If he keeps up a .516 batting average when he doesn't whiff, I won't be too worried about the strikeouts.

If he keeps up a .474 BABIP, I won't be too worried about the strikeouts.

I have a sneaking suspicion that he won't keep those numbers up, and when those come back to normal his K problem will be a problem. I think getting the K-rate down is essential to any real chance that he has.

Obviously the K issue is interlinked to the power question. If he hits 30 HR's a year, 180 K's may be acceptable. (Adam Dunn format). But a guy with 180 K's a year probably won't be acceptable if he's hitting 13 HR's.

On Atkins:

Des Moines Register"]He allowed one run, struck out 11, walked none and retired the final 16 batters he faced before leaving after six innings.

"My first few games, I was relying on my catchers a lot. They know these teams better than I do," Atkins said. "But once you get in a groove like I did today, you stop thinking and just start throwing."

...

"It was a breeze to catch him," catcher Tony Richie said of Atkins. "He does a good job of mixing his pitches. Anything you call, he can get over."

MiLB.com"]Atkins has won all of his five starts since being promoted last month from Double-A Tennessee, where he won his final five starts.

"Pretty much everything was working for me today," he said. "I was throwing a lot of cutters and getting them over for strikes. And I got good run support."

...

"It's been great," he said of his Triple-A experience. "I'm trying to carry over what I did at Tennessee. The hitters here are a little better. They're more patient and looking for a certain pitch.

"But overall, I'm getting comfortable here and feeling pretty good right now."

He's intriguing when you look at the success he's had.

His K's are up slightly (117 in 140 IP this year, 106 in 141 IP last year).

7.52 K/9 this year, 6.77 K/9 last year.

He's still not an overpowering strikeout guy, though, and he's been a dominantly AO pitcher, similar to Lilly. He's been an All-Star for his league 3 years running. One would think that a guy with as good of numbers as he's had, he could be a useful pitcher somewhere down the road. He's also very tough on RHs so far in AAA (.148 BAA compared to .273 BAA for LHs).
