Lets keep the R-Train rolling.

Seriously though, anything short of a sweep in this series can be chalked up as a failure. No Bay, Nady, or Laroche, at least Adam. While the Bay trade may have made them better for future purposes, maybe good enough for 3rd or 4th in 2 or 3 years, it makes them even worse than they ever have been for the time being. At least with Nady and Bay, they had some power.

One of the things that made the first half great was how the Cubs beat up on the teams they were supposed to beat up on. Keep that trend going, please.

Great series against the Brewers. The long-distance girlfriend called last night and said "We made the Brewers look awful this week!"

Lets NOT make the Pirates look better than they are, please. :beg:

If we dont shut them out every game, we'll be making them look better than they are.

I suppose, but we do have Jason Marquis....

The Z and Fontenot thing kind of reminds me of Pedro and his midget buddy, Nelson whatever. Except Fontenot can hit a baseball.

the Pirates are a team of terrible players who somehow have a better record than you'd think. Outside of playing the Cubs, they're more or less a .500 team.

I believe we're 2 over .500 against all teams besides the Cubs.

As for LLF's comments, it really has no basis in reality. The one thing that's going to help you today is that two of our best hitters were traded in the last week.

The reality is, prior to these trades, we're a very good hitting team that can't pitch. We're not losing games 4-3. We're losing 7-9. In fact, 26 of our 50 wins have been come from behind wins. While we've lost two of our most productive hitters, there are still guys hitting. Look at Doumit. Look at Adam LaRoche's July numbers. I don't need to talk about McClouth.

The problem has been starting pitching, pure and simple. It's kind to call it pitiful. Let's start with Matt Morris. ('nuff said there.) Snell & Gorzo have been a LOT worse than last year (Thanks, Jim Tracy). Maholm has been good, very good as of late. Duke was better this year than last, but still has a ways to go. Dumatrait had a couple of good stats but ended up on the DL. I won't even discuss the rest of the guys as there was maybe two good starts amongst them. It's no accident that 5 of the 8 players we acquired are Pitchers.

But to say that not shutting us out makes us look better than we are has no basis in the facts.

The Pirates have been a solid offensive team all year with their outfield of Bay-Nady-McLouth. It's their pitching that's been abysmal.

You do realize that Nady and Bay are both gone now, and Laroche is on the DL?

Yes, I realize this. I meant to include it in my post. But, that still doesn't address the point that we are a good hitting team. Not as good as we were, but still good.

You do realize that Doumit and McLouth are still good bats in that lineup, right? Plus, the addition of Moss and Andy LaRoche certainly doesn't hurt them.

Losing Nady and Bay definitely hurts their offense this season, and the Cubs should do well in this series. But to demand shutouts every game is a bit much.

I hope Marquis is happy and relaxed that he's still here (given he won't be on post-season roster again). Call me an optimist.

7 IP, 7 hits, 2 runs.

Final: Cubs 6 Scallywags 3

I'm going to be out of town for a good week or so, and will probably be leaving before this game starts. Text score updates will be my friend. I predict a 6-2 Cubs victory (crap, Marquis is pitching... make that 7-6), and since I won't be following, I imagine it will be among the most dramatic victories in baseball history.

Obviously were not going to shut them out every game, maybe the Zambrano game. Still, 2 or 3 solid bats does not a good team make. Just ask the folks in Houston.

Are you just so above everyone else on this board that you couldn't take a moment to lighten up just once? The Cubs just swept four from the Brewers on the road, and all you've got are insults to hurl?

It was simply a scientific observation.
