Rick VandenHurk has a 6.10 ERA in 3 starts this year. Odds that we get shut out?

The offense will explode for 6 or 7 but the staff will give up 8 or 9.

More likely, the Cubs win 10-6, and everyone thinks that the offense is back on track, and then they score 3 combined runs the next 3 games.

I know some have been on this bandwagon for abit now, but colour me concern about this team. I mean when this team is hitting on all cylinders they are the best team in baseball, but conversely, when they are not running on all cylinders, they are Dodgers/Padresesque. The Cubs NEED to find the mildde ground between being really good offensively, and really bad offensively, if they want this division. Cause as long as they are wasting great pitching, they will lose ground in the standings.

BTB, I think Rich Harden needs to pitch a 9 inning perfect game just to have the opportunity to win a game.

Worth every penny.

Yeah, screw him. He only went 2-for-5 today. What a bum.

How many months has it been since he hit an extra base hit?

July 20 he had 2 doubles against Houston.

Last homer?

He's not a home run hitter so I don't see what the point is in asking this.

Fine, then he needs to man up and play centerfield.

Man up and play CF? Where the hell do you think he played today? Hes never once came out and said he wouldnt play CF, its been media speculation as to the reasoning he signed with the Cubs and not the Sox. Fukudome has seemed like a pretty good "team first" kind of guy. Hes said he doesnt care where he hits in the lineup, etc...

This Cubs team is starting to resemble the 2004 Cubs. They will get a great pitching performance that will carry a lead into the late innings, only to see some reliever allow the tying run and the Cubs offense unable to respond.

Why is it suddenly necessary to move Kosuke to CF? I'm not all that keen on taking Edmonds's bat out of the lineup, personally.

It would be one thing if we had a guy worth plugging in to right field.

If Edmonds ever needs replaced, I'd rather just platoon Pie and Johnson

we're not going to have leaders at every position, and Kosuke is currently sitting right around the middle of the pack in OPS for qualified right fielders. considering the terrible month he's had so far, that's not too terribly bad being his first year in MLB. add in his defense, and I don't see a huge issue with him being there. the only way I want him moving to CF is if someone like Manny or Holliday can be brought in to play one of the corners. let's not forget that Edmonds and Johnson are putting up these lines in CF respectively: 279/374/565 and 315/384/444

No, but it would be easier to go get a big corner outfielder bat than it would to get a centerfielder.

I think part of it is that Edmonds hasn't been healthy enough to play with any regularity in a couple weeks, and he just had a long layoff with the all-star break too. With Soriano back, keeping Fontenot's hot bat in the lineup means that Kosuke plays CF or DeRosa doesn't play(which is heresy).

If we were making a move for a corner guy, I'm sure it would be considered and I'd be all for it, but right now there's really not a point

yeah, but I know that Manny and Holliday are both out there to be had. Why not really go for it?

I'd love to. I have my doubts that the Red Sox are doing anything other than dealing with the Manny situation the same way that they always do, and that we have enough to get Holliday, though.

I do think we have enough to acquire Holliday, however it would completely deplete our farm system. Not that I really care about that though as everyone knows our farm system really isn't all that great.

I'm fine with Edmonds in CF too. The problem is he's 38 years old and he's a little banged up right now. You can't expect him to be healthy for the rest of the season. That's why I think we need to make a move for another OF. You never know when Edmonds could be out for good and then suddenly you're stuck with a Johnson-Pie platoon once again when instead, you could have someone like Holliday or Manny (doubtful) in the outfield. I think Alex Rios makes a lot of sense as well. That way you wouldn't have to move Kosuke, plus I do think Rios' power numbers would come back a bit as he would be playing half of his games at Wrigley.

We'll see what we do. I think Hendry realizes that we need to make another move before the deadline.

Rios is a RF locked into a long-term deal. The Cubs would have to move Fukudome to CF to make room for Rios.

I just got a chance to watch the game after recording it.

How sad is it that when we went to extras I knew we'd lose?

AT HOME?

Ugh, these are the Cubs

some things never change.
