LOL at blaming Lou on that one. Wow. Just wow.

It's not completely his fault but you have to question the hit and run. Even if you thought it was a worthwhile endeavor to hit and run, doing so with Ramirez, who doesn't steal ever and probably would be easily fooled by Davis' pick off move and with Fuku, who hasn't hit well lately, isn't the best idea.

I saw "caught stealing"....with Aramis Ramirez on first....what in the hell just happened?

Lou thought it would be a good idea to send Ramirez with a lefty looking right at him and Kosuke facing the same lefty. I'm shocked that it didn't work out.

I don't catch the post-game press conferences. Does the media call him out on this or do they let it slide? And if so, why?

I think it was a poor call too, but it's hardly Lou's fault that Aramis doesn't know how to tell when a pitcher is throwing to first as opposed to throwing home.

I wanted to respond like this but a) couldn't find the Cubs exact overall record and b) didn't have the motivation that you have.

Neither could I, so I was like, "Screw it," and went with what I knew offhand.

Why is that funny? You've got one of the slowest guys on the team at the plate, a lefty with a great pickoff move, and a lefty at the plate who strikes out a ton and is bad against LHP.

Yes....we're going to find a way to lose this one after all. I knew they'd pull through.

Losing is what this team does best. After all, they have a reputation to uphold.

seriously?

When did you start following the Cubs?

Once again. THIS team refers to 2008 no?

Not that it matters. The Cubs have 16 pennants, over 10,000 wins, a well over .500 all time record... but none of that matters because they haven't managed to win a WS in 100 years.

Does anyone honestly care about the WS drought? I've been watching the Cubs for 13 years. I don't care what they did before then. Those of you that have been watching for 30-40 years, I understand the frustration, but that's still nowhere near 100 and there are plenty of teams that have been more futile over the recent past than the Cubs. I'm pretty sure nobody here has been waiting anywhere near 100 years for a championship.

All the 100 years crap is just media and fan nonsense. It gives other team's fans (bogus) ammunition to talk trash. That's about it. If they had won a WS in 84 or 89, I'd be no more satisfied or happy as a Cubs fan than I am right now. Case in point, Brewer fans can talk all the crap they want about 100 years, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them haven't even seen a postseason series in their lifetimes.

But what if you someone gave you a refresher?

You're absolutely right.

You honestly believe that?

Would you have anymore satisfaction as a fan if the Cubs had managed to pull one out in 69 or 75 or 84 or any other year?

Who the hell cares?

Hey! I think I'll pour some of this gas on the ground and then throw a match on it. What will surely happen is that the most beautiful butterfly in the world will form and fly away.

OW!! MY LEG IS ON FIRE!! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?? WHO KNEW THAT THROWING FIRE ON GAS WOULD BE A BAD THING??? WHY AM I LOU Piniella??

Cause Lou isn't the one who got picked off. Do you blame Lou when Derrek grounds into a double play?

Of course Ramirez deserves blame also, but Lou is the one who forced him to try and get a good lead against a guy with a great pickoff move.

Lilly looks like crap. It figures that we get a meh performance on a day that the offense finally does anything.

You're right. I think that the umpire should be blamed for never calling a stupid balk on this guy though.

Well yea, you. But I'm pretty sure he's a younger guy, which is why I tossed that in.

It's simply the hallmark of any team that isn't playing particularly well.

its honestly minorly embarrassing that we haven't won the world series in 100 but yeah doesn't affect my satisfaction that much

It is an indictment of how poorly anyone and everyone who has run this team in the last 100 years is

I was commenting more on the bolded part... that at the end of the year, it doesn't mean anything to win your division if you don't win the World Series.

This is (a) me trying to be funny (and failing) by trying to use a metaphor to explain Lou's thought process on the hit-and-run, and (b) a result of me being very tired.

Just out of curiosity...prior to 2004, when the Cardinals tied us, did any NL team have more NL pennants than the Cubs?

Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me I would rather have won.
