The biggest piece in the Jays' trade puzzle remains A.J. Burnett. Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi maintained Friday that he "can't see" Burnett leaving Toronto because interest in the starter has been next to non-existent ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

 

Interestingly, however, Chicago Cubs special assistant Ken Kravec took in yesterday's game.

 

Insiders observed that Kravec does not visit major league parks unless on some specific assignment.

 

Burnett observed last month that it would be fabulous to pitch for the Cubs, sparking a controversy over whether he was fully committed to the Jays. Since then, though, the Cubs made a trade for pitching help – acquiring Rich Harden from the A's July 8. Harden's health, however remains a minor point of concern.

 

 

 

I'm kinda confused how they make the connection with Burnett considering he didn't start yesterday.

He didn't play yesterday either. I'd imagine if we were going to look at a specific player we'd find out if he was going to play or not.

Matt Stairs sucks this year. I have no interest in him (for once, I would've loved him just about every year prior to this)

yea, he has a .759 OPS vs righties this year(.472 vs LHP). Definately a guy you want to stay away from. I also wouldn't go after burnett if i were hendry, simply because you already got Harden. Why add what is basically another Jason Marquis(burnett: 4.84 ERA, 1.448 WHIP, Marquis: 4.44 ERA, 1.430 WHIP)? I would think Rios and Ryan would cost a lot to get, but those are the only two i can think of who the cubs would be interested in.

Or what if it is the case of the Cubs doing their due diligence?

Or what if the Cubs trying to make people look at their left hand (SA at the Blue Jay game) while the right hand (Hendry/Cubs) are looking at a totally different player?

 

Or what if there is nothing to this SA going to the Blue Jays game.
