I watched Carlos Zambrano at the All-Star Game, as well as in his first start back, and his arm slot really worries me, because it's down where it was just before he hit the DL.

Just a toss in line from today's Under the Knife, but... hopefully this is better than it looks...

This is just great.

He said it in their MLB all-star game roundtable chat too.

Any time Z walks that many people, I get a bit concerned.

He does have a bit of a wild streak sometimes, and when he gets pissed off he tends to lose his control. I'm not too worried about Z. Hopefully he stays healthy and this is much ado about nothing.

So I guess you were concerned all of 2007 when he walked 101 batters, 2006 when he walked 115 batters, etc..

I'm worried and have been for a long time. I just hope he stays healthy this season. This by far the best Cubs team in my lifetime (I was born in 1969).

can someone remind me who did the thorough piece last year during Zambrano's rough start detailing a drop in his arm slot? the thought was he was dropping his arm as a result of an injury. i can't remember who did that piece though.

ETA: i remember being completely convinced by the article though it seemingly turned out to be nothing as Zambrano ended up turning it around. hopefully this is the same.

THE OTHER SHOE THERE IT IS

i wish will carroll would shut up so i could enjoy this season in peace

but seriously, i'll always be worried about any pitcher on the roster, especially young ones that we owe a lot of money too and that have thrown a ton of innings unchecked.

If Will Carroll hadn't been concerned about Z's arm before this, well then hes worse at his job than I thought.

If Will Carroll shuts up, there's still the seemingly ever-gaining Brewers and Cardinals to make sure you can't enjoy the season in peace.

They always seem to be gaining, yet they never seem to catch up, which is impressive, as the biggest lead we've had was 4.5.

Actually, it was 5.5...which is actually one of the bigger leads any first place team has held in any division all season (outside of whatever huge April/May lead AZ had on the west).

I apologize for the size of the pictures. They do show a slight drop in release point, but was it significant outside of his last start?

big baby (nj): Zambrano looked like he was shot-putting the ball during the AS game. I don't know anything about mechanics, but the first pitch he threw made a small part of me die on the inside.

Will Carroll: Big Z -- yes, he was "slinging" and looked the same in his weekend start. Velocity was good, location wasn't.

That's not uncommon for Carlos. His arm dropping down might be, though. I took a look at the data for a game in 2007, but it was blank. I'll have to check a few more out later to see if there's a chart or two from last season.

Better tonight. Those lowest release points came in his last two innings. He threw a lot of pitches. Way more than I would have liked to see.
