What's a man got to do to get some praise on this board?

.278/.374/.530 8 HR 14 2B in 151 AB this season. Those are some solid numbers. Mike will not be a full timer anytime soon with the Cubs with DeRosa on the squad, but he might make an interesting matchup guy, with DeRosa moving around to 3B, and the OF on days people need rest.

Career his OPS vs. LHP is .596 and his OPS vs. RHP is .825. Definitely a valuable guy to have off the bench. I was pretty dispointed when he made the team coming out of Spring Training, but I think this man has proved he is a major league hitter.

I've been more than critical of him this year, but the past month or two he's really turned it on. When Soriano comes back, it'll be nice to have DeRo be able to give Lee, Ram, Soriano, or Fukudome some time off and have Fontenot be able to step in and give us some production. I'd really love it if he could figure out SS to a point where he's adequate enough to put there so we can give Theriot a day off every now and then and keep some production in the lineup instead of the black hole that is Ronny Cedeno.

i said this earlier today on LEPG, but thank god for theriot and fontenot... never thought i'd say that.

Now I could be wrong, but he appears to be much better at driving the fastball inside. Pitches and scouts are bound to figure this out, no?

I always thought Fontenot was terrible and had no place on the roster.

Last year he had a smoking hot streak too though. It's kind of hard to believe he's an .800+ OPS hitter "for reals."

I remember being peeved in 2006 when Theriot got the callup to play 2B instead of Fontenot. I don't know what it is, but I've always liked the little bugger.

He's the best 2b on our roster vs. RHs.

.309/.408/.481 vs. LHs for DeRosa

.290/.380/.558 vs. RHs for Fontenot

Anyone else think a platoon would be a great idea? DeRosa can still get ABs vs RHs for Soriano, Fukudome, Ramirez, Lee, and maybe even Theriot (though I doubt that would happen at this point).

I always thought the guy got hated on a bit too much for a utility guy. He has been a pleasant surprise as of late, but then again, so was Ronny Cedeno a few months ago, so we'll see what happens. Also, it seems as though he and Theriot are at their best when in the lineup together, kind of like they're feeding off eachother. No, he wont be a starter anytime soon, but if he can manage to keep up what hes doing, he could earn himself a starting job in a few years when DeRosas contract is up.

Probably because Theriot was putting up his usual craptatstic 750 OPS at the time and Fontenot was in his 3rd AAA season and was the best infielder on the team.

Met him Saturday night @ the Hilton, super nice guy. Funny story though, he and his father were waiting to use the lobby restroom, and when the children's urinal opened up, his father said, "There you go, Son, that one is more your size." Pretty funny to hear a mjor leaguer getting crap from his dad about his size.

He's actually a .900+ OPS hitter.

so you met him and then followed him into the restroom?

creepy.

I saw Ryan Dempster come in and take a piss at the Flying Saucer on Main Street, but I was there first.

So he met you and then followed you into the restroom?

Nope. I was drinking there. I went to take a piss. While I was taking a piss, Ryan Dempster came in and took a piss. I didn't know he was there until I saw him in the restroom. I went back to the bar after that, had one more drink, and then walked back to my hotel. I don't know where he went after taking a piss, who he was with, or what.
