Erik says brewers.com can kiss my white ass.

Brewers still have some holes. CC will help, but their bullpen is a little shaky and the overwhelming stupidity of Ned Yost will hold them down. They're my Wild Card pick, though.

However, if Gallardo comes back this year and is effective, then CC/Sheets/Gallardo is equal to Z/Harden/Dempster.

I didn't bother reading this, but I am sure it says at some point, they are afterall the cubs. You know the cubs haven't won it all in 100 years. Yep this Cubs team for 2008 hasn't won a title in 100 years. Man I hope the Brewers are watching the playoffs again, their fans need to be reminded of their lack of relevance on the national scene.

Fearless second-half prediction: If Sheets stays healthy, the Brewers should have enough to overtake the Cubs.

Fearless second-half prediction 2: If Harden stays healthy, the Brewers will remain looking up the Cubs butt for the 2nd half.

There, I correct Brewers.com. Their prediction was half a prediction.

That would be nice, i am going to be totally honest here, i don't see that happening i hate to say this but the cubs are the better team hands down and to be honest i don't even think the Brewers will make the playoffs.

Its Brewers.com. What are they supposed to say? "Despite the fact that we traded our top prospect for a guy who will be pitching somewhere in California next season, and Sheets will be skipping town too, leaving us to rebuild our rotation from the ground up, we're still going to miss the playoffs". Thats not a very fearless prediction.

Considering it is the Brewers' official website and everyone writing there is a team employee, it doesn't really surprise me that they put something like that together. It's a throwaway All-Star Break piece, IMO.

Is it possible for the Brewers to catch the Cubs? Sure, but it would probably take a Brewers sweep at the end of July to even get within striking distance of the Cubs -- something that's not likely to happen. Not to mention if the Brewers don't play well in St. Louis July 21-24, that Cubs series is going to mean even less. I think most smart Brewers fans (and yes, there's quite a few of us that are smart) realize that the Brewers' main targets should be the Cards/Mets/Phillies. A division title would be nice, but it doesn't matter how you get into the playoffs (especially when you're talking about an organization that hasn't been there in 26 years).

Completely unrealated to your post, but how many non-Brewers fans realize the ball and glove logo actually spells M and B for Milwaukee Brewers? Such an awesome logo.

It amazes me that in all of these discussions I see on here and all of the predictions I see in the media, all of the talk is about whether the Brewers will overtake the Cubs. You know what the really scary part is for both of those teams...............? The Cardinals are not that good!!..........and they are only 4 games behind the Cubs, who I will admit on paper has the best team in baseball and an awesome manager and terrific starting pitching and a great lineup. The Cards are also IN FRONT of the Brewers. CC cannot not make up the deficiencies of that team by himself. The Cards have a scrappy team (thats what Cardinal baseball is) with what seems like average pitching, a terrible bullpen (21 blown saves!!.......what if they would have converted half of those (which would still be awful)....they'd be up by a game). The trade deadline is weeks away and the Cards have plenty to trade for Fuentes if they want. They have two of the best starters in the majors coming off the DL in August (hopefully) in Carpenter and Wainright without giving anything up for them. The Brewers are very talented but will shoot themselves in the foot and wont make the playoffs. Could it happen again that the Cubs will be rubbed out in the playoffs????? It is certainly possible. You dont go 100 years because you arent good enough. Its something more than that. There are baseball demons involved here that for some reason dont like the Cubs. Plus losing is contagious. The first sign of a collapse.....how will the cubbies respond? Thats when we will see what kind of manager Lou is. He didnt do well with that last year. Still a lot of baseball left. Should be fun.

When someone says it was fun watching the Cards win the World Series, I ask..........which time?

Lets go over your reasons for the Cardinals winning the division over the Cubs

-Cardinals are scrappy

-Cardinals have a bad bullpen which some some unexplained reason is apparently a fluke according to you

-Cardinals will make a trade, even though their GM basically said they wouldnt

-Pitcher coming off TJS will give them boost

-Brewers will shoot selves in foot for some unexplained reason

-Baseball demons hurting Cubs

-Past 99 years is a precursor to this year

-Cardinals have won titles in the past (2006 then 1982 then before that what 1967? wow you are old) so that is why they are more likely to win this year

Seems quite logical

And to answer your question, we are ignoring the Cardinals because we are hoping that they will just go away if both sides ignore them.

This part confuses the hell out of me. This is his 21st season managing in major league baseball. We know what kind of manager he is. And he didn't do well with what last year? The only thing close to a "collapse" was the hole the team dug itself into at the beginning of the season, and they climbed out of that, obviously.

I think he's referring to the playoffs last year, but I don't really know what Lou did wrong except take Z out early in game 1

That's not even the most confusing part. He calls him "an awesome manager" earlier in the paragraph.

There is absolutely no logical reason why the Cards will win the division or the wildcard and there is absolutely no logical reason why the Cubs should not win the World Series......but since when does logic dictate what happens on the field? How is that friggin Jeff Weaver helps the Cards win a Series? How is that the ever fragile Anthony Reyes wins a World Series opener? How is it that never a closer Wainright becomes super closer in 2006..............to help win the Series? How is it that John Stuper has a great postseason for the Cards in 82 to help them win the series? How is it that a 500 pitcher goes to St Loo from Boston and becomes dominant for the Cards to help them.......almost win the 85 series (Tudor)? How is it that Tom Lawless and Jose Oquendo(Thats right.....who?) star for the Cards in the 87 postseason to take the Cards to another World Series? Oh Yeah.....2004....well you get the picture. Most of the time its not about the stars of the team that put a team over the top. Who is that player or couple of players that are going to pop up out of nowhere for the Cubs? Will they pick up a rugged old veteran down the stretch to help put them over the top (Cesar Cedeno comes to mind in 85)? Who will be the unexpected player that will rise to the top and become a legend in Chi-town? I have to be honest....it would be kind of cool to see it happen to Chicago. Let me go on record and say that the St Louis has the best fans in baseball thing is crap. I would put Cubs fans ahead of St Louis fans. Yankess fans, Boston fans.......all ahead of St Loo. It would be nice for baseball and for the Cubs fans for the Cubs to win......I just dont think it will happen.

Do you really want to go down the road of havent won since 82 before 06? 82 is what........74 YEARS later!!?? Dont even start with that.

Maybe. But if he's referring to the playoffs as a collapse, that was what? the sixth inning of Game 1? Not really indicative of how Lou reacts to imminent disaster.

Theriot and Soto were pretty out of nowhere. Dempster? I'm not sure if I would call Edmonds rugged, but he's been pretty valuable this year. But yeah, this part of the argument is also strange to me.

So your logic is that mystique is going to make the difference? Please do better, say something about Ankiel and Pujols, or Duncan or something.

Mystique has a lot to do with it. Some things just go your way. Are you telling me that the Cards were better than the Mets or the Tigers in 06? Heck No!! How many errors did the pitchers for the Tigers make that led to wins for the Cards? Its just weird.....I'm telling you!!

So this has turned into a Cubs are cursed thing?

They haven't won b/c they didn't put together good enough teams for extended periods of time.

Ask Boston fans how their supposed curse worked against them after they finally became the most talented team over the last 5 years.
