  1. They are only 4.5 back, and though I believe we can expand that to 6 or 8 games middle of August, I still don't want them upgrading OF. Ankiel, Ludwick, Schumaker, and Bay in the OF, and maybe sometimes Duncan. Make that 3 back. The pixies are working overtime!! "Smell that Bill........it smells like somebody died" Johnny Ringo about the Cubs.
  2. Oh Yeah......how could I forget........Can he stay healthy?? I still like the Cards outfield even with Alf instead of Derosa.
  3. Fukudome=one of the most overrated players in baseball. I dont know how the heck he got into the All Star Game. As bad as Uggla was, Fukudome had the worst at bat of the game with his swing around whirling dirvish move. It was embarassing. The Cubs have some great players......but he isnt one of them. I'll take the Ludwick, Ankiel, Shumaker combo over Fukudome, Edmonds and I guess Derosa??? Better defensively and puting up better numbers. Who woulda thunk.
  4. Mystique has a lot to do with it. Some things just go your way. Are you telling me that the Cards were better than the Mets or the Tigers in 06? Heck No!! How many errors did the pitchers for the Tigers make that led to wins for the Cards? Its just weird.....I'm telling you!! Mystique has zero to do with it. Just watch.........if the Cubs win......there will be unusual things that happen in their favor(bad hops, Sheets gets hurt, wind blown balls, Pujols has a hand cut off). If they dont, there will be things that happen not in their favor (Z hits an umpire, Harden gets hurt, Isringhausen learns how to pitch again(that would be a mystery), Yost chokes.....again. Who knows.
  5. Blah Blah Blah. Please learn to write in paragraphs and complete sentences. It might make me want to read what your post. By the way simple math tells me that '82 is actually 24 years EARLIER than '06 not 74 years later. 74 years is the difference between 82 and 08. My point was even though it was so long ago before 06 that we won a series......it was still 74 years later than the Cubs last win. Not a Cubs curse.....not at all. Just something weird happens sometimes in the postseason. What about the ball that Steve Bartman(is that the right name) interfered with? That was a good Cubs team also.

  7. There is absolutely no logical reason why the Cards will win the division or the wildcard and there is absolutely no logical reason why the Cubs should not win the World Series......but since when does logic dictate what happens on the field? How is that friggin Jeff Weaver helps the Cards win a Series? How is that the ever fragile Anthony Reyes wins a World Series opener? How is it that never a closer Wainright becomes super closer in 2006..............to help win the Series? How is it that John Stuper has a great postseason for the Cards in 82 to help them win the series? How is it that a 500 pitcher goes to St Loo from Boston and becomes dominant for the Cards to help them.......almost win the 85 series (Tudor)? How is it that Tom Lawless and Jose Oquendo(Thats right.....who?) star for the Cards in the 87 postseason to take the Cards to another World Series? Oh Yeah.....2004....well you get the picture. Most of the time its not about the stars of the team that put a team over the top. Who is that player or couple of players that are going to pop up out of nowhere for the Cubs? Will they pick up a rugged old veteran down the stretch to help put them over the top (Cesar Cedeno comes to mind in 85)? Who will be the unexpected player that will rise to the top and become a legend in Chi-town? I have to be honest....it would be kind of cool to see it happen to Chicago. Let me go on record and say that the St Louis has the best fans in baseball thing is crap. I would put Cubs fans ahead of St Louis fans. Yankess fans, Boston fans.......all ahead of St Loo. It would be nice for baseball and for the Cubs fans for the Cubs to win......I just dont think it will happen. Do you really want to go down the road of havent won since 82 before 06? 82 is what........74 YEARS later!!?? Dont even start with that.
  8. It amazes me that in all of these discussions I see on here and all of the predictions I see in the media, all of the talk is about whether the Brewers will overtake the Cubs. You know what the really scary part is for both of those teams...............? The Cardinals are not that good!!..........and they are only 4 games behind the Cubs, who I will admit on paper has the best team in baseball and an awesome manager and terrific starting pitching and a great lineup. The Cards are also IN FRONT of the Brewers. CC cannot not make up the deficiencies of that team by himself. The Cards have a scrappy team (thats what Cardinal baseball is) with what seems like average pitching, a terrible bullpen (21 blown saves!!.......what if they would have converted half of those (which would still be awful)....they'd be up by a game). The trade deadline is weeks away and the Cards have plenty to trade for Fuentes if they want. They have two of the best starters in the majors coming off the DL in August (hopefully) in Carpenter and Wainright without giving anything up for them. The Brewers are very talented but will shoot themselves in the foot and wont make the playoffs. Could it happen again that the Cubs will be rubbed out in the playoffs????? It is certainly possible. You dont go 100 years because you arent good enough. Its something more than that. There are baseball demons involved here that for some reason dont like the Cubs. Plus losing is contagious. The first sign of a collapse.....how will the cubbies respond? Thats when we will see what kind of manager Lou is. He didnt do well with that last year. Still a lot of baseball left. Should be fun. When someone says it was fun watching the Cards win the World Series, I ask..........which time?
