I saw the first commercial for it during the HR Derby, supposed to start Janurary 1, 2009.

Here's the best article I could find about it:

MLB Network plans to begin televising Jan. 1 to more than 50 million U.S. homes on digital or expanded basic platforms, making it by far the most successful network launch in cable TV history.

Early programming will include portions of the 2009 World Baseball Classic and a nonexclusive Saturday night, regular-season game package. Complementing that will be a mix of highlights, studio programming, international and development league games, and archival material. Also in the works is a nightly news and highlight show patterned after ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight.”

I'll probably watch that channel A TON. Especially if they show a lot of historical games from the 50's or 60's. Stuff like that.

That would be especially interesting. The network would be worthwhile just for that, regardless of other programming. Apart from the games themselves it would be a good chance to hear some of the gread announcers from the past.

that show was weird. I could never figure out where they held it. Some stadium with 15 foot ivy covered walls and houses behind them

I'm pretty sure those were all filmed at Wrigley Field....but the one in Los Angeles.

No. There was a minor-league park in LA named Wrigley Field where they filmed those.

That's where the Los Angeles Angels played back when they were a AAA team in the Pacific Coast League. I think the Cubs may have played Spring Training exhibition games there at one time, but I'm not positive on that.

I'd look forward to the minor and developmental league stuff, but I'm sure I'd be disappointed by the lack of quantity. Same goes for the historical content.
