I doubt they'll send Dempster and Zambrano to the hill on 3 days rest this early in the season. I think your computer wanted to forget Marquis existed Fred :D , as does both ESPN.com and Cubs.com's probable starters. He or Gallagher will have to pitch sometime next week.

Yeah... I just went with ESPN on this one. I don't know why they seem so quick to skip over Marquis, he's got 3 QS out of his last 5 starts, and the 3 before that he gave up 3 runs each time but didn't quite make it to 6 innings.

Ok...we've got a little bit of info on this from Cubs.com

He'll stay in the rotation, getting his next start Saturday against the San Francisco Giants. Sean Gallagher also stays in the rotation, and Jason Marquis will start Friday.

The he refers to Marshall at the beginning.

I believe the Gallagher comment is a misprint on the name because we also have this:

Dempster was scheduled to start the day before the All-Star break, and said he'd be able to pitch for the game. It would normally be his bullpen day. Piniella was not about to adjust his rotation for the game.

"We're trying to win baseball games," Piniella said.

So it looks like it's

Tuesday-Dempster

Wednesday-Zambrano

Thursday-Lilly

Friday-Marquis

Saturday-Marshall

Sunday-Dempster

just watched the 9th inning of yesterday's game for the first time, and i think that if lee wasn't inexplicably playing for the bunt, kennedy's hit may have been a DP.

I was expecting a bunt. Chance to put the tying run in scoring position, having your choice of who to hit next with the pitcher's spot due up, and most importantly, LaRussa being the one making the decision? I was surprised when he hit away.

down by two i didn't think there was any way he would be bunting. you'd need a hit in that situation, and by bunting you're saying that one of your next two hitters HAVE to get a hit...against wood.

I thought the same as well, however, like many other posters I was expecting a bunt, then again why would La Russa waste a PH to sacrifice? After all, the Cardinals are so "fundamentally" strong you'd think that any one of the pitchers would be able to lay down a bunt including McClellan. So, I've just reasoned myself into writing Lee should have been playing back.

It kind of sucks that the Sabathia stuff took away from the fact that we just took a pretty big series from the Cards on the road, and very easily could have swept.

yeah, it sucks about the new rule that says if the brewers make a trade, a win is subtracted from the cubs.

... and the division standings are reversed, so now the Cubs are chasing the Brewers.

i thought lee was going to make that play anyway. but he still only gets one out imo.

getting a W would've been sweet. it was my b-day and i was given tix at the last minute. of course i was in full cub gear. later i ran into one of the cubs top draft picks at a bar. ( i confirmed the identity with my phone and nsbb). overall a pretty good night.
