Per the Trib. As if a WS broadcast could get any worse.

Not official, the article is about DJs contract situation.

And good thing the local announcers don't broadcast playoff games--they are all done by the networks (FOX, TBS, ESPN) and the WS is all on FOX. Usually Joe Buck and Tim McCarver (who are definitely worse than Stoney and Hawk would be.)

Interesting combination...a play-by-play guy who is practically silent and an analyst that loves to hear himself talk.

Or a play by play Yes-man who blames umps and makes excuses, and an analyst who tells it like it is and holds players and managers accountable.

Stone would be a huge upgrade over DJ

Stone would be a huge upgrade over Brenly. Almost anyone would be except Harelson or DJ.

Just an FYI, you misspelled "downgrade."

Nope.

Last week I was listening to the Cub-Sox broadcast on XM on my way home from work. Stone hasn't lost anything. He was talking about Quniten being a low ball hitter and how Dempster's approach should bode well for Quntin. Sure enough Quntin gets up to bat and hits a bomb on one of Dempster splitters. That's just one example.

When I got home I was treated to Brenly's non analysis on WGN. He's a horrible color man. Len would be better off by himself.

I don't like Brenly at all either. He never really adds anything other than corny jokes. I loved Stone but the way he has been acting I've little respect left. I do want a different color guy though. I vote for myself since I graduate in Dec.

........ and an analyst who tells it like it is and holds players and managers accountable.

Maybe when he was broadcasting the Cubs. But you obviously haven't listened to him for the past 3 seasons on AM 670 "the Score", the White Sox flagship. Even before this season as their radio color guy, Stone has absolutely NO BALLS when it comes to critiquing the White Sox. He kowtows to the team, the radio station, the on-air personalities and the fans when it comes to anything White Sox. And yet he won't hold back knocking the Cubs. He's become quite predictable. http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_bdh.gif

And while I don't disagree the guy knows his stuff about baseball, let's face it....some of his game time predictions are pretty obvious:

"A ground ball here and the Sox will turn a double play".......as the opposing team's catcher is at bat.

"A good, hard slider down and away and XXXXXX will strike out."

"Look for XXXXX to throw a fastball here, and if it's in the zone, Dye is gonna hit it really hard", he flippantly states on a 2-0 count.

Gee, Steve. Do you think if the batter pops the ball up someone will catch it?

In my opinion, he's gone from being a great analyst and baseball expert to a sarcastic (at times) know-it-all who can't take criticism when called out on the radio by listeners.

The Sox can have him!

I heard Stone on XM and was surprised by how complimentary he was about the Cubs.

For me most announcers are equally terrible/ annoying. I like Steve Stone.
