Brewers need alot more help than CC. Today's 9th inning is enough proof.

Valid point

Cubs have gotta land CC though, that's the key move, IMO.

If only we had drafted a good player at the number 3 spot last year. Then maybe we could try and get C.C. As it stands right now. The Brewers have much more to offer.

You've got to be kidding me.

Kind of. You don't think Weiters would help land Sabathia? I don't think we have what it takes to get it done.

Vitters doesn't? 18-year olds who are OPSing over .900 at short season are good trading chips. To say that Vitters isn't a "good player" just shows your bias in favor of Wieters doesn't allow you to judge Vitters properly.

Actually I haven't been following as closely since my daughter was born. Didn't know that Vitters was doing that well, but still I don't think he is the trade chip that most Cubs fans thinkn he is.

It sucks that Josh Vitters has already proven to be a huge bust and will never amount to anything.

No he isn't a bust, but as of now he has no trade value. We won't be able to trade for Sabathia for this year anytime when Vitters will have good trade value.

He has good trade value now.

As good as Gamel and Escobar?

Did I miss it somewhere in the thread... what happened with that supposed Reds deal that was mentioned towards the beginning of this game thread? Anything??

The report is that the Brewers are willing to move Gamel but not Laporte. If were willing to deplete our farm system, we can get him. The Brewers know CC will just be a rental so they'll be careful with what they give up. Maybe the same with us, but we have more at stake, with a better chance of being able to keep him around.

Depending on what they add to Gamel, I doubt we can compete with that. If they deal Gamel and Escobar along with another piece, that's just more than we can match.

Theres always the chance that the Yankees, Red Sox, or Rays can swoop in and steal him away.

Raisin, shouldn't you know all 18 years who are STILL in Low A ball are bound to be busts? Sheesh.

I actually said no one said he was a bust, but hey good rant.

Solomon Torres closing games isn't going to get you in the playoffs.

Why? He's having a great season and the closer role is such a joke.

How can you say it's a joke? Most teams in the postseason have brilliant closers.

For instance, the playoffs last year. Yankees have Rivera. Red Sox have Papelbon. Rockies had Corpas. Arizona had Valverde. Angels had K-Rod.

You could always say the Indians had Borowski, and the Cubs had Dempster, but go ahead and tell me how the closer position is a joke.

Yeah that kind of tells a different story, no?

Ok, If only we had drafted Wieters.

Trust me, Vitters isn't going to land us Sabathia. Wieters probably would have. Catchers who OPS over .950 at AA while only 22 are pretty good.

If we're willing to move Gallagher, Veal, and then some, we could land CC. It all depends on how valuable the future is vs. ending the drought.

"The future" and "ending the drought" go hand in hand.

Congrats!

He's a top-40 prospect the way he's been playing. Remember, he's young for a HS draftee, that really helps his status. He's certainly not going to be as valued as Wieters or LaPorta but he's a fantastic chip, especially when combined with a guy like Pie (a lot of teams surely will still like Felix).

First of all, I'm not sure why you're calling Corpas a "brilliant closer". Second, I'm not sure why you're just shrugging off Dempster and Borowski when they are perfect example of why your statement was false. Torres is having a much better season than either of those guys had last season, yet suddenly th Brewers have no chance of making the playoffs because Torres is closing.

Anyways, I don't know why you're talking as though Torres is terrible. He's having a good season.

No big deal today.

Mets are up 8-0 on the Cardinals.

God forbid we should gain some ground on anyone.

Not gaining ground > Losing ground

I'll take that

I've been satisfied with breaking even for too long now. If the Brewers land Sabathia, a 4.5 game lead on them is not going to be enough.

Who cares what you are satisfied with? We're in front, we didn't even lose the series and people are bitching

Thanks, Yeah I guess a lot depends on what people still think of Pie. But, will Cleveland want him? They have a pretty good centerfielder.

i agree the takeaway from this game is that we should have drafted a college player so we could trade him for cc sabathia

Targeting the draft is fine. But it's more like "If we had drafted Travis "Bad Body Awesome Bat" Snider instead of Tyler "I'm from the Southeast and I have tools in a vague way but they don't manifest themselves in a manner that actually helps me succeed in baseball so of course the Cubs will draft me even though Baseball America has Sir Colvin going more in 50 pick area, because the Cubs know more than Baseball America when everybody else on the planet knew you pick Snider, bad body and all and to hell with Colvin and his mediocre 5 tools" Colvin.

This isn't hindsight. WE ALL KNEW on the day it happened Snider was a better pick. Go look up the damn topics. TRAVIS SNIDER GETS YOU C. C. SABATHIA. TYLER COLVIN GETS YOU A LUMP OF COAL IN YOUR STOCKING.

Sorry, but I get angry people still defend Saint Wilken.

You're just mushing mediocre names together. Who gives a crap about Veal? His 2.67 ERA really means little looking at his 1.36 WHIP, his 4.5 walks a game, a K/9 that has gone down precipitously. He's not even young for his level any more. That's just a lame looking trade chip to me.

I think we got the idea after about the first 100 times you posted this same anti-Wilken sentiment.
