Please send Marquez Smith to Daytona. 2 for 2 with a HR and a walk tonight, pushing his line to .296/.350/.505

while we're bitching about this sort of thing, matt craig is performing admirably against AA pitching for like the 15th consecutive year. his line coming into tonight: .351/.514/.550. iowa is calling.

If Matt Craig were in the Cardinals system he would've gotten a trial in the majors by now. This is what gets people all pissed about is that some career minor leaguer gets his chance at the age of 28 with the Cards and turns out to be a decent player. It's because some of these guys are career minor leaguers only because no team ever let them try playing in the majors. I don't see a spot for Craig on this year's team, but I find it perplexing that after the catcher experiment was scrapped that Matt has had to stay at high A putzing around before he could once again go back to AA to mash.

He OPSed 866 as a 23 year old in AA. His reward was to repeat AA. After falling off a bit the next year his reward was to try and learn how to catch. After that being scrapped before the season started, his reward was to start in A ball. He's pretty much just a 1B type at this point, but so is Hoffpauir, and Craig has the better minor league record. I'm not saying there's much of a difference between the 2, I guess I just don't understand why Hoffpauir is big leauge material and Craig isn't allowed to leave the state of Tennessee.

glad someone else is pissed off about this. by the way, .866 is a pretty damn good OPS for the southern league, especially from a 23 year old player. and it's not like he was some 5th year senior who was an undrafted free agent and has little to no upside; he was drafted in the third round. like lots of good players. their handling of him seems pretty idiotic, frankly.

I don't know if tis is anywhere But it says Rhee is going to disabled list: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?cat=2

Ugh, it's on the Chiefs web site too. Elbow pain isn't good.

Current Chiefs ace Dae-Eun Rhee is headed to the disabled list for the second time this season after feeling right elbow pain during his three-inning stint on Sunday.

RHPs Jose Pina and 2008 draftees Jay Jackson join Peoria. Also, RHP Blake Parker goes from Iowa to Daytona.

I just hope were not looking at the second coming of Angel Guzman.

That's up to .360/.520/.570 after last night. Looking at his splits, there's not a single one with OBP < .500. If he had enough PA's to make the league leaders (he's had 3 stints on the DL), he'd be 2nd in AVG, 1st in OBP and OPS, 4th in SLG.

I don't care what he's hitting, the boy's got to work on his versatility ability before I'd even consider adding him to the major league bench. If he can't play CF or 2B, he's nothing to me.

They need to do something with him. At 27-28, hes well past his prospect years. He might interest some team as a throw in in a trade, but he has little value as anything else, unless he's content as a career Tennesee Smokie.

actually you have it backwards. there is probably no value in the trade market because the cubs haven't treated him like any sort of prospect, but he may have value to the cubs if they actually advance him beyond the level that he handled four years ago.

and again, "well past his prospect years" is a silly way of thinking about things, given that there have been several players who came up and produced after being labeled "career minor leaguers"

It's silly to think he can't do anything in the majors, but it's not silly to think of him as well past his prospect years. He's not going to add value via trade. Although the fact that others haven't picked him up in rule 5 really only proves they didn't want to try and keep him on their rosters for a full season. He could be a throw-in, especially to the type of team that could benefit from an older guy with no service time who could possibly give them 3 extremely cost effective seasons.

CF Colvin 0/5, K

After what appeared to be a little bit of an awakening by Colvin, he ends June with a line of .236/.307/.373 for the season, his OPS was actually lower in June than April and May. The BBs are up a bit, the power is sort of kind of showing up, a little. But he's still not coming close to producing at an acceptable rate.

This kid really needs to stick in CF, and really needs to think about turning it on a bit sometime this year. He is still only 22, and won't turn 23 until after this season ends, I believe. So he's not on the verge of disappearing. But aside from where he was drafted, there's little to suggest he's got a bright future.
