It's Derrek Lee's fault we lost this game. If he would get a clutch hit one of these days.

Like, oh, I dunno, last Friday and Saturday.

How was Saturday a clutch hit? It was the 4th inning.

Let's play the "define clutch" game!

Why did Lou PH Blanco?

He saw what Sherill did to Fukudome, generally the best lefty hitter the Cubs have.

Eric Patterson should've been given the chance to redeem himself and if not we could have blamed him for the entire game instead. Now I put the blame on Blanco haha

Okay, I must've missed something during the time I wasn't watching. What'd Patterson do?

Called Theriot off on a flyball and then proceeded to miss the catch leading to a 2 bag error to start the inning they then proceeded to score 3 runs and go up 7-1, otherwise the worst it gets would have probably been 5-1 maybe 6.

Were there two outs when it happened?

No it lead off the inning but still thats a real killer when you should've had easy out to start the inning. Then I think they hit double triple single and then we got out of it.

What's your definition of clutch? It was a one-run game in the 4th inning, and he drove in a run, kept the inning alive for Ramirez's HR that put the game out of reach.

Eh, looking at what happened that inning, it looks like Wuertz gave up several extra base hits anyway. It sucks, but Wuerzy looks to have gotten hammered pretty badly anyway.

Blanco should be used to either give Soto a day off, or replace Soto due to fatigue, injury or whatnot. Blanco should not be your “last chance” to tie or even win a ballgame. Which means, the Cubs should look for another good bat off the bench, so that Blanco shouldn’t be counted on to come through in the clutch.

What do you want to do, cut the backup catcher and only go with one? it's not like Lou used Blanco before another PH. we didn't even have a lefty on the bench at that point

Clutch=8th or 9th inning.

Lee sucked all game. He grounded into 1 double play and nearly grounded into 2 others.

Ronny Cedeno has turned back into a useless pile of horse dung. WTF happened to the great approach he had earlier in the year?!

Is it me or does Fukudome always have trouble against LHPs with a decent breaking ball low and away?

He actually kind of looked like he was feeling pressured into winning the game there in that at bat, swinging at everything, not a good at bat but we all know what he can do, and what this team can do they just didn't do it for 9 innings tonight.

Quit being an ignorant troll. Lee's been on fire the last 2 weeks solid, homered to bring the Cubs within 1 on Friday's game, and is hitting .291/.390/.511 in high leverage situations on the year.

It would be one thing if this sort of thing only came up in pressure situations, but he does that freaking awkward helicopter swing any time a slider/change LHP is on the mound pounding the outside corner. It drives me insane.

How about the guy we just sent to Iowa instead of some of the dead weight that inhabits our bench.

Nice to see that these boys can still remind us that they're the Cubs every so often when we start to forget.

That was a joke. Absolutely pathetic. Load the bases and then don't even make contact with the ball. Disgusting.

They were down 7-1 and came within a single of tying it in the 9th. Let's be honest here... 2 of the guys batting in the 9th should never even bat in big spots and the other (Fukudome) had no chance against Sherrill. They still showed the ability to come back.

That is true I do notice it a lot but I have seen some times when he has hit that breaking ball away from a lefty but they are usually in the zone, he swings at a lot of the breaking balls low and away out of the zone and then proceeds to do is sweet swing. If only he would've leaned his shoulder into that ball inside. Then Patterson could've batted and Lee could've won the game YEA I SAID IT CUBSGM LEE could've won the game!

At first I thought you were trying to reverse jynx or just troll or something with the Lee commentary, but I guess not.

Go look at Lee's numbers over the past 10 games and tell me how bad he's been lately.

And if your argument seriously is about "clutchiness," let's not even begin it.

He also started the 3 run rally in the 7th that got them back in the game.

Lee has not been clutch and had a bad AB in the 8th, but saying he's the reason we lost is beyond foolish.

Exactly. Once they fell behind 7-1, they had no business being in the game. The fact that they were within a single of tying it or a double of winning it in the 9th with 3 chances is more of a testament to how really, really good this team is.

Agree completely about how this game shows the team is a good team after being down 7-1 and fighting back to a single away from a tie, it helps me to get over the losses much easier than normal.
