Didn't think there was any way I'd say this before the season started, but Rich Hill.

He's almost 6 years older than Gallagher. He's slightly closer to arbitration. He is also less likely to help the club in 2008 than Gallagher is at this point.

Those 3 things together IMO make up for the fact that Hill's upside is still higher than Gallagher's. It's just completely up in the air right now if Hill can hit that upside consistently, and I'd rather keep the guy who's a much better bet to be consistently good in the next few years, even if he may not be great.

Gallagher would be the last of the 3 young starters that I would trade. I'd trade Marshall first, then Hill, then Gallagher (if you threw in Ceda and Veal, the list would probably go Ceda, Marshall, Veal, Hill, Gallagher).

Hill. I really think Hill can turn it around, but on the chance he can't, combined with his age and being more impressed with Gallagher's array of pitches, I'd rather keep Gally.

That said, if Gally's pluses can net us Sabathia better than anyone else we have, so long, Sean.

I've resigned myself that Hill is probably going to be moved. I think Gallagher helps us more this year; for the future it would depend on whether Hill rights his ship. But, I really don't want to trade Gallagher at all.

Now 21-0. If I had to bet I would assume that Gallagher is playing somewhere else this fall and Hill is still in the minors.

First vote for Gallagher. Not that I don't like Gallagher or anything, but at this point, Rich Hill probably has no value. Hill was one of the top 15-20 starting pitchers last year. Right now, Rich's value is as a minor league headcase....a lot less than the #2 starter he has performed like for a good 1 1/2 years before this season. At this point, you might as well keep Hill and hope he turns it around again, as he did in the minors when he last had control issues, because you are selling way too low. Right now, Gallagher has more value than Hill. If you trade Gallagher, and his ceiling as a low 3, high #4 starter, you can possibly get a legit #2. If Hill comes back to his 06-07 numbers, you have another #2 capable starter. Plus, you'd have to trade more in a package with Hill than you would in a package with Gallagher at this point, unless someone really thinks they have a miracle working pitching coach.

This is exactly how I feel.

This was my logic as well.
