Swisher wasn't on the bag... isn't that a balk?

How does the first baseman have anything to do with a balk?

Don't you remember Lilly being called on that when throwing to first when Lee was not on the bag, err, "not in a position to receive a pickoff throw"?

You can't throw to an unoccupied base. I'm pretty sure that's what got that balk called on Lilly a while back. Lee was in for the bunt and didn't get to the base.

I thought that applies to the runners. Usually if you throw to a base where the player isn't covering, the ball keeps going, so its your own damn fault.

That, and as long as the first baseman is moving to the base, it probably would count.

Soto going deep here would be the ultimate "rubbing Ozzie's face in it" move here... CMON GEO!!!! :beg:

DAMMIT!

He made a strong bid for it though!

Nevermind, it can apply:

steps to first base and throws to the first baseman who, because of his distance from the base, is (or would have been) unable to try a tag against the runner at first base

(Note, this is from Wikipedia, so it could be wrong)
