He crossed over the foul line toward 2nd.

 

At the very least he should have scurried back to 1st, he had plenty of time.

I've watched it three times, and I don't see that being moving toward first.

Jason Marquis is going to become the Fred Merkle of this century. :mrgreen:

 

Mr Merkle was the only MLB'er my hometown ever produced.

 

Addie Joss played some college ball here, but Merkle was born and raised.

He's a tool for doing that? Wow, I wish the Cubs had 25 tools that could confuse umps into "bad calls" like that.

It's not about turning towards second or moving into fair territory. The call was right because Marquis made a slight move towards second (while he was looking into foul territory). He never actually turned towards second and tried to run, but that doesn't matter.

He's a tool to Cubs fans, but if Soto was like that, I and most Cubs fans wouldn't hate him. Just like Sox fans don't hate him.
