Indiana loses to Lipscomb after leading 35-14 at one point. :stickman:

5-7

Need 2 Big Ten wins to hit that magic 7 win mark.

Best game I've watched all season but I think that's the Purdue fan in me talking.

Illini will get an early chance to gauge how good they really are Tuesday at Purdue. I fully expect them to lose, but if they keep it respectable, they could be looking at an easy NCAA tourney spot this year, which would be a huge step up from last year.

IU almost survived one of my preseason goals: no really embarrassing defeats to teams nobody has heard of. Northeastern was perhaps in that classification; Lipscomb definitely is. And blowing a 21-point lead too. Arguably the worst two performances of the season in the last two winnable games of the season.

IT'S ON THURSDAY

I heard OU plays Arkansas on December 30. What are you talking about?

I said Thursday, but I meant Tuesday.

I'm looking forward to it just to see how they play against very high level competition. This is a really young but really fun to watch squad. They run, shoot the three, and they can play D when they want to. Their rebounding also belies their lack of size. They also have two of Rivals's top 15 freshmen in Fortson and Clarke...of course, they're not quite 12 feet between them, so there's that. I think this team has a lot of ptential but isn't ready yet. I think I'll learn a lot about theme in the upcoming games against OK and TX.

One of my friends played at Lipscomb, but a Big-Ten team losing to them is just pathetic

No doubt. I honestly never gave a thought to IU losing this game -- even as subpar as they are. I always figured Cornell, TCU and Northeastern would be difficult to win. I was pleasantly surprised the former two were relatively easy wins; not terribly surprised IU went only 2-1 in that stretch. But Lipscomb? At home? After leading by 21?

Iowa 8 10

I will say that I don't think Northwestern is quite that good and Wisconsin is quite that bad, but both teams are much closer to this estimate than their national perception.

Also, if that happens in conference, I don't think there's any doubt that NW gets to the tourney. I also think that if NW hangs around at 10-8 or 9-9 in conference, they'll unfortunately be left out simply due to national perception.

Definite possibility of 6-7 Big Ten teams in the tourney, though.

Northwestern is sporting a 10 RPI right now. I don't think they keep that up, but I think 10-8 in the Big 10 gets them in as like an 8 seed, maybe a little higher.

I don't get this perception of Wisconsin being top-25 good. Is it just one of those "They'll be good just because they always are" things?

I was thinking about this the other day. If Purdue goes 14-4 (one win worse than last year) they will be 25-6 and probably either a 2 or 3 seed. What I'm finding interesting for the conference going in is that the winner will probably have the record of the third place team last year (14-4). Just shows how the whole conference has taken a step up, minus IU of course.

Bo has finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 2nd and 1st in the Big Ten.

I can't bet against them until I see them struggling in the Big Ten.

where's the love for Nick Anderson?

again, very good nba career. anderson and gill are tied at #2 on my list.

No love for Eddie Johnson, Derek Harper or Ken Norman?

Rats. Showing my age again.

I don't think they're necessarily top 25 good, but their good enough for the tourney. Just depends on how things break for those mid-range teams to decide if they're NIT or NCAA. 9 different teams are entering conference play with a nonzero chance at the NCAA tourney. I can't remember this being the case for quite some time.

i still don't understand the boner that the computer rankings have for northwestern. their strength of schedule is terrible, they've beaten a bunch of very bad teams, a not-terrible depaul team and a pretty good florida state team, and suffered close losses to a couple of good teams. they might be good, but i'm not sold. they'll play a lot of they'll play a lot of close games since they play one of the slowest styles in division i, but i think they may just end up like 6-12 with a bunch of close losses in conference.

Pomeroy's conference predictions (not perfect, since there are more wins than losses):

Purdue 13 5
Illinois 13 5
Northwestern 11 7
Ohio State 11 7
Michigan 10 8
Michigan State 9 9
Minnesota 9 9
Iowa 9 9
Wisconsin 8 10
Penn State 7 11
Indiana 1 17
