What do his numbers look like? I can't find anything

He played on the Cuban National Team when he was 15 or 16. He's pretty damn good.

Doesn't 15 or 16 years old equal 34 in the US?

Fwiw, I believe that it is the Cuban hat.

Correct.

He's probably going to be headed for the 2009 MLB draft.

PASS...we don't need any commies on this roster.

To be fair, it would appear he's denounced communism.

If I understand this right, he has to wait for the draft since he is in the U.S. But, had he went to another country(Dominican Republic) he could sign right away. If this is the case, what the hell is his agent thinking?

You're right and I'm guessing it's a case of getting the hell out of Cuba however you can and then hoping for the best afterwards.

Yes, I get that. But, couldn't he have fleed to the DR and still been out of Cuba? Plus make a ton of money from whatever team wins a bidding war?

I think the key point is fleeing Cuba isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world, and you take your opportunities when they come. I'm sure he'd have preferred going the free agent route, but sometimes you take what you can get.

At least the Rays won't be drafting #1 again next year.
