26th rounder RHP Josh Whitlock signs:

Huntington Herald-Dispatch"]Ripley native Josh Whitlock, the 2004 West Virginia prep baseball Player of the Year, signed with the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs selected the 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed pitcher in the 26th round of the recent Major League Baseball first-year player draft.

"Josh has really matured," said veteran Ripley High School baseball coach Ray Swisher. "When he was a senior, he only weighed 160 pounds.

"Now, he's much stronger and it has really increased his velocity. He has touched 96 mph."

Cubs 49th rounder RHP Hunter Scantling apparently wants first round money (heh) or he's headed to FSU:

Florida Times-Union"]Scantling, projected by Baseball America as a fourth-round pick, has a game plan for contract negotiations.

"The thing is, I've been telling the scouts that I either want to go first round or first-round money, or I'm going to college for three years," Scantling said. "If they don't draft me first round, they'll take me later, but we'll try to work out a dollar amount over the summer."

First impression from that quote is he's just trying to up the price but will settle for far less than 1st round money.

what is the average $ for a supp pick?

Last year, it was $679,450.

41st pick last year (Sean Doolittle) got $742,500.

To be fair, slot is up this year. Certainly not up $163,500 for a supp pick; it's up 10% (which would be $816,750 compared to last year's 41st pick).

James O'Donnell has signed, since he's on the Boise roster. Flaherty is also on the roster, so that signing is further confirmed if there was still any question about it.

Tony Campana also has signed.

nice to see all of our future disappointments getting signed early

agreed... by signing now, they will get to play a full summer of short-season ball, which will accelerate the failure process and allow us fans to divert our attention to failures in the 2009 draft and beyond.

McDaniel and Sontag.

McDaniel is 14th rounder who just turned 20. Had bad stats, but apparently was pitching most of the year with injured ribs.

Another quote from Cashner saying he hopes to sign within the next week.

The Montgomery County Courier"]

While those five players begin their careers in earnest, pitcher Andrew Cashner, of Conroe, and catcher Shea Robin, of The Woodlands, have yet to sign with the respective clubs.

Cashner, the Cubs’ first-round choice and the 19th pick overall, is hoping to reach a deal with the team by the end of this week when his advisor continues discussions with the Cubs’ front office.

“They (the Cubs) made a real good first offer,” said Cashner, the all-American relief pitcher for the Texas Christian Horned Frogs. “We’ll see what happens. I think we’ll get it done. I’m pretty dead set on getting the deal wrapped up.”

North County Times"]Cerda's number is believed to be around $400,000, a little high for a player taken with the 131st pick in the draft, but some of that money could include a college-education fund.

If it is really $400,000, that's nearly double slot. I'll believe that value when I see it officially listed.

The Cubs are going to take a look at how Alex Wilson (10th rounder) does in the Cape Cod League to see if he has bounced back from TJS before offering him overslot money. He was solid in his first start but left the game early because he was hit in the forearm by a linedrive. His final line was 2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K/0 BB. The Cape Cod Times said he wasn't seriously injured.
