Bonderman could miss rest of season

Tigers placed RHP Jeremy Bonderman on the 15-day disabled list due to a blood clot of the axillary vein.

 

Bonderman had a surgery similar to the one Aaron Cook had two years ago and figures to miss the rest of the season. It's a big blow to the Tigers' chances, though it's not like Bonderman was looking like an ace this season. Armando Galarraga can return to the rotation as his replacement.

If the "dream team" wants to keep hope alive, they're going to have to go after some pitching. The offense will eventually do its job consistantly, but the pitching staff, not so great.

You laugh, but they're going to have to make a move for some pitching if they ever hope to get back into it. The market isn't looking like there's going to be an abundance of options out there, they may have to shoot for a two for one. They gave up alot of their more appealing prospects in the miggy-willis trade. I don't see them getting a better offer than Marshall-Gallagher at this stage of the season. Anyone with a better package will likely wait until the deadline when return value is maxed. Any possibility of such a move is predicated upon Detroit determining they still have a legitimate shot at the post season, and that they can't afford to wait until the trade deadline while slipping further behind before making such a move. It's a long shot, but I don't think it'd be a ridiculous starting point given how far into the season we are and their situation. They're going to have to take a risk if they don't want to write the season off. Have you heard of any other teams offering up good young pitching during the first week in June?

theyre going to have to give up something of value, considering they traded the entire farm system to get Renteria, Cabrera, and Willis.

Verlander is having a bad year with an era over 5. In old timey circles that 2-9 record looks even worse. But his WHIP of 1.39 isn't bad and opponents are slugging like .375 against him.

 

I doubt he's available but what about Hill, Gallagher and Wuertz? I thought the Tigers had some interest in Wuertz, Gallagher is young and if Hill returns to form they reap some short term benefits.

That's a good WHIP for a bad year, but not a good whip otherwise. I don't think it's representative of what he's capable of. He seems to be affected by the rest of the team's crappy play, I think a change of scenery brings that down. I also think that's why I'm interested in him. You know, the whole buying low thing if Detroit could be coaxed into working out a deal for him.
