Every time Crow doesn't get drafted fills me with false hope

He's going to be a National...if he gets past there, start raising your hopes.

Analysis of ESPN2 coverage of Amateur Baseball Draft:

- Selig stumbles over name of draftee

- "experts" break down draftee

- terrible interview of draftee

- awkward baseball related chit-chat...

repeat

Insert commercials between 2 of these steps.

What about when he still on the board at #19, and Wilken picks someone else?

I'm trying my best not to get too excited yet. If he falls past the Cards at 13, I'll start getting pretty pumped.

Yeah, I read at GRB today that StL won't let Crow get past them.

I told my friend about the apparent $10M price tag and he wasn't too happy with that. Hopefully the front office isn't either.

Anybody have a link about Crow?

Ultimate Role: No. 2 starter

Draft Estimate: Top 10 overall

Summary: His fastball has touched 97 mph on occasion, including a one-inning stint at the 2007 Cape Cod All-Star Game, but he sits in the 90-94 range and pitches well to both sides of the plate. His secondary stuff is promising but currently below-average, with a short-breaking slider with a cutter-like action but not a ton of tilt; he has a changeup with good late fading action, but that pitch isn't consistent yet. His delivery needs some cleaning up as he has a severe hook in the back (although his arm is quick enough to get around it) and a lot of recoil in his finish. Crow and Brian Matusz are the two top college starters in the draft; Crow is more of a power pitcher with a chance to be a solid No. 2 starter, making him the traditional choice when compared to Matusz's offspeed-heavy approach.

Smoak or White Beckham to the White Sox now.

I know literally nothing about any of these guys being drafted, yet I can't turn away. Probably just a way to put off finishing my lit. review.

At least you guys are here to give me some insight, thanks for that.

They should reduce it to 2 minutes (I had to say it again)

Yeah, 5 is a bit much. I don't know if 2 is enough to make it decent TV, but there's clearly a lot of unnecessary dead time and filler.

I think they could just talk about the kid drafted a little bit (no need to interview), then talk about how he might fit into that team's system in comparison with other prospects.

To do that they'd actually need to retain people that know more than a thumbnail sketch about the different systems. They'd probably have to hire some BA/BP types. Gammons, Olney et al don't pay much attention beyond the top 5.

There's enough guys available that know enough to give a decent 30-45 second blurb about it.

Hm, this gordon beckham is a "baseball player" according to the experts. Think we should draft one of those?

Gammons: "He's just a baseball player."

Hawk and DJ will love him.

As opposed to being a baseball player and a contestant on Top Chef

Cincy has screwed up my draft.

Yeah, no kidding. I guess the Lawrie stuff was just smoke.

Smoak at 9? Or Crow?
