First: Yesterday’s game.

Second: Last yr’s game in which Howry/Eyre blew the 5 run lead in the ninth, to which Soriano won it in the bottom half.

Third: You have the McMichael/Hernandez confrontation/Gutierrez crazy rundown.

Fourth: The Rockies had a 9-1 lead back in 99 in Colorado, to which the Cubs came back to win the game, 13-12.

Fifth: That same yr at Wrigley. The Cubs almost blew a 8-2 lead:

Sixth: Then you have this game, in which the Rockies scored in every inning..Plus they scored in the last 4 innings of the previous game, to which to Rockies scored in 13 straight innings.

WTH is going on when these two teams get together. It's safe to say, that when the Cubs/Rockies play, expect to see something you never seen before.

Wait, so this is not the first time the Cubs have overcome a 9-1 deficit to beat the Rockies? LOL

edit: and to the craptitude that was the 99 Cubs no less!

I don't remember exactly when the McMichael game was, but Henry Blanco played in games 1, 4, 5 and 6. He was on the DL for the Cubs for last year's game. Obviously, Todd Helton has played in each game.

That right there is reason to never count either team out, and never walk away from the game.

As I mentioned yesterday, you can always count on some wierd stuff happening when those two teams get together.

Little off topic here, but I recall reading about a cub-reds game circa 1954-55 where the cubs came into the 9th losing 9-1 and won it in 9 innings. Anyone got the historical data on that game?

June 29, 1952 they were trailing 8-2 going into the ninth and scored 7 to win, but I can't find a 9-1 comeback. I looked at Retrosheet.org and couldn't find it (Click the year, team, and game log to look at the games).

ANother interesting fact in a Cubs/Rockies series, if memory serves, the Cubs got franchise victory #10,000 against the Rocks.

Nice that except for the last game, all of these had a happy ending for the Cubs / excruciating ending for the Rox.

Another crazy game although not quite in the same class as most of these:

64000 jammed into Mile High Stadium for this July 3 game followed by a fireworks display. It was by far the highest attendance I had ever personally witnessed for a ballgame, and the atmosphere was absolutely electric.

Also:

Sandberg got hit #2000 off Curt Leskanic

Cubs unfortunately blew a 3-run lead in the final two innings.

By the way, Aramis Fan, thanks for posting that. Chip Carey gets a lot of criticism, but his call on that ridiculously chaotic play was awesome.

That was my first Cubs night game ever. Probably the craziest experience of my life.

I think that one tops my list. I know the big comeback a couple days ago is fresh in everyone's mind, but there's never been anything like Mongo calling out the home plate ump from the press both. My God that was amazing. Hernandez's face....it's was just beet red with anger.

Then the Gutierrez thing at the end. Total and complete madness.
