say the same thing 20 times? No different than many of you that say the same things over & over. Same difference. Only difference is that your opinion differs which somehow makes it alright in your mind to say it over & over. In regards to Cpat..i heard an interview of him by Santo one time. Santo asked him how his approach is different coming off the bench rather than starting. There was a long pause & the soft spoken Cpat said...I'm not as much into the game when I come off the bench. It's just not the same. It was a very odd answer & caught Santo off guard. I never had confidence in the kid after that exchange. I just do not like guys like cpat & sammy & sori that just do not understand the strike zone & just swing at damn near everything, do not take walks & do not take pitches to tire the pitcher, work the count & do what is best for the team. I'm not alone in this criticism although the baseball people that agree do not post on message boards for a living. Oh well....

Every team would love to have Soriano's production on their team, Sosa in his prime, or Patterson coming up thru their farm while hoping he develops and lives up to his tools.

Sosa developed a very good eye at the plate as he developed into one of the best power hitters of the last 10 years, Soriano has been able to remain productive despite a poor approach with lightning quick hands and strength from a wiry frame. Patterson never had the same power or bat speed to overcome his poor approach.

To say that baseball people do not like players like Sosa, Soriano, and Patterson to where they would not want Soriano and Sosa (in his prime) as well as Patterson as a high draft pick would be incorrect as there are plenty of teams that would kill for that production from the 1st two and the potential of the last one.

yeah, I'm just an amateur that's been at it awhile. so far, I haven't been able to get a paying gig.

there's nothing wrong with that attitude, but when you're playing a professional sport and your skills begin to erode like his are, you have to be 100 percent committed to it - both physically and mentally - or you won't be good enough to stay in the league.

I posted this in the Bulls nostalgia thread going on in Social, but it's worth posting here.

The Edmonds to the Cubs thing reminds me of Charles Oakley coming to the Bulls after being hated with the Knicks for so long. I know it's not a perfect parallel, since Oakley had been on the Bulls before, and wasn't nearly as horrible for the Bulls as Edmonds has been for the Cubs...but still, that sense that him playing for your favorite team is just...wrong...is there in both instances.

I'm sure it's different for each person, but I didn't hate Oakley like I hate Edmonds. Oakley was part of those Knicks teams, but he wasn't John Starks (who is the comparison I'd make to Edmonds).

Oh yeah...duh...I completely forgot Starks was on the Bulls. That's a MUCH better comparison. Hopefully a few years removed I'll forget Edmonds was on the Cubs too.

I guess I viewed Edmonds as an Angel first and during his best years, so maybe it didn't bother me as much. I do think the Starks comparison is pefect though. I guess if Edmonds didn't completely suck it would be easier.

Edmonds is doing us a favor by stinking right from the beginning instead being barely good enough and sticking around the rest of the season.

Yep...and yet he still has a roster spot....

I don't have a problem with what he said, if he stated to press he might actually suck more than he already does. He simply doesn't seem to have anything left. It was funny listening to Sutcliff say that about 20 times Tuesday night.

For how much longer? I mean, is there a set number of at bats that he's going to get before they decide the Edsperiment is a failure?

At this point, my guess is that they're continuing with it a little longer until there's pressure on that roster spot. Either Pie continues his last couple days for a week or two, or Ward is ready to come back. I think Edmonds will be gone as soon as they're forced to make a roster decision.
