The Ishii T-shirt ad on the home page is great. I did not think LA people were that jaded. I thought nice weather makes you laid back.

ok now that the game is over I wanted to just come on and see if anyone else was annoyed when Len said "The Cubs hold a 2-1 lead in a game that has been close throughout" in the eighth inning. I thought well no s*** Sherlock. A 2-1 game can be at most a two run lead. It's like an announcer saying its 1-0 in the eighth inning and then immediately following that up by saying its been a pitching duel throughout. I wasn't mad or anything when Len said it but I was like a der de der.

i missed this game, but why on earth would a major league team not named the san francisco giants (and whether they're a major league team is debatable) bat mark sweeney #5 in the starting lineup?

Loney was getting a day off, so that explains why he was in there, but I don't think anyone can explain why he was hitting 5th.

The same reason the Cubs give Daryle Ward the occasional start at first base, i.e. to give the everyday first baseman a day off?

mark sweeney had an OPS+ of 83 in 2006, 89 last year and this year it was at -6 coming into today's game. giving him a spot start is fine; batting him ahead of solid hitters like kemp and dewitt is dumb.

So it's mandatory for the first baseman to bat 5th?

I misread Truffle's post; I thought he was asking why Sweeney was in the lineup to begin with. My bad.

Probably for the same reason that Reed Johnson batted fifth the other day. Stupidity.

Interesting test of wills today. The Cubs shouldn't lose to a team with Mark Sweeney hitting 5th in their lineup. The Dodgers shouldn't lose to a team with Jim Edmonds anywhere in the lineup. Something's gotta give.

Demp's pitching himself towards a nice contract this offseason.

He's gotta quit walking people, though. He's made some good pitches in some tight spots, but if the walks continue he's gonna come crashing down hard really soon.
