Some transactions for Peoria:

LHP Chris Siegfried taken off the 7-day DL. RHP Ryan Acosta demoted to extended spring training. 18-year old IF Gian Guzman was called up to Peoria to replace IF Jeffrey Rea who reinjured his quadriceps.

Acosta had a 4.19 ERA and 6.55 K/9 at age 19 in low-A but had already given up 7 HR (1.22 HR/9) and had a .306 BAA.

He's gotta be working on his secondary pitches. At least, that's what I'm hoping. Those second numbers are atrocious.

They demoted Acosta? I don't know how much I like that.

I don't at all. Ashwood, Cabrera and Siegfried have been significanly worse and only Cabrera has an argument for being a better prospect than Acosta amongst those three.

Is there one player in the minors worth even checking out these box scores for? I'm disgusted

D'oh.

How has Kreier looked? What's type of stuff does he have (velocity, secondary pitches)? Thanks...

Pie, Murton, and Patterson in AAA are really all that I care about. This farm system needs some major retooling from top to bottom.

Pie, Hill and Marshall?

I'm hoping Hernandez and Rhee are back real soon.

Yeah, I forgot to mention Hill and Marshall as well. Possibly Hart too. That's about it though.

Thats what happens when you wait for the next day's paper!!! Kreier has a slider and a changeup. low 80s with the fastball. I'm intrigued to see how he is going to do coming out of the pen now that Siegfried is back. He did better the 1st time through lineups than the 2nd in his first start.

Holy crap has the bottom just dropped out on Samardzija.

Samardzija 5.0 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 3 HR, 1 HBP.

At least he had more strikeouts than walks for once? ERA up to 6.14.

It may be time to move him to the pen. Even that may not help him.

Bad news, Felix Pie's BABIP is still .000. Good news, his first AAA hit left the park. He also walked and had 2 sac bunts (yeah that's gonna help his development).

Is .405/.583/.595/1.179 worth checking out?

I'm too lazy to look. Who's doin that?

EDIT: Nvm, not worth it. You forgot to mention he's 27 and in AA for the 14th time.

Matt Craig at AA Tennessee (in limited AB).

Jovan Rosa hitting .305/.372/.482 is the closest thing I see to good in our minors.

Dylan Johnston showing some pop with 6 HRs so far...LH pop is always a plus.

That's it?

Tyler Colvin's plate discipline has increased noticeably this season, but the rest of his numbers have not caught up yet.

Pie, EPatt, Marshall, Hill, Hart, and Murton are all worth watching in AAA for obvious reasons.

After that...yeah, it's a disappointing season in the minors. A lot of last year's top names either have graduated from prospect status, have been hurt, or have been slumping. The same can be said for a lot of the potential sleepers in the lower levels. If you remove Pie, Patterson, and Gallagher from the picture, Josh Vitters might be the only Cub prospect in the discussion for the Top 100. Tyler Colvin might be in the discussion, but he needs to get his power numbers up to a respectable level before people give him that acknowledgment.

Hopefully the summer sees a productive draft with some breakout performances from various names. Otherwise, this might be a long season.
