Not sure how smart of a move this was by the Brewers at this time, especially after the Prince Fielder off season fiasco. Especially with Prince being a Boras client, they're going to have to give him an equal or greater contract, or more likely let him go to the delight of Brian Cashman.

Also, they may as well kiss Ben Sheets good bye, as The Yanks and Red Sox will jump all over him like 2 crack heads on a dead hooker.

His BABIP reveals that Braun is not quite the hitter that he was in his rookie year, and his patience is garbage right now.

This move stinks to high heaven for several reasons. It would have been like us giving CPatt a 6 year deal after his one good August.

Except Ryan Braun is 500 times better than Corey Patterson.

that might be the worst analogy i have ever seen.

Unless I am just a complete idiot, which is possible...45 mil over 8 years is a little over 5.5 mil per year, not 8.

Great deal for the Brewers. He sucks in the field, but he can rake.

this all but guarantees that Fielder won't be on the team past arbitration (if then)

Yup. Not that Prince was going to be anyway, but this pretty much cements it. Though if I were Prince I might sign an extension with the way he is playing now, but he strikes me as a guy who is too proud to give in after his perceived disrespect over the amount he was paid this year.

Who the hell is Brauns agent anyway? 45 mil for 8 years? Thats just over 8 mil a year. While Id kill for that, there are guys with a fraction of Brauns potential making 10-12 mil.

He wasn't a free agent.

Yeah, this just buys out his arby years and a few FA years. That said, I still wouldn't have signed that deal if I were him.

His agent would still negotiate the contract.

Fielder may be one of Boras' hottest clients, and Boras usually likes his big name in big cities, like the Mets, Yanks, Red Sox, Angels, etc. I cant imagine him lettign Prince stay in such a small market unless they offer up A-Rod numbers.

That is, quite possibly, the dumbest thing I have ever read on this message board.

You do realize that Braun had pretty much the best rookie season in the history of baseball, correct? And that if you look at his minor league numbers/hype that it isn't a fluke?

Also, did CP even have a good August? Wasn't his "tear" the first half of 2003 before he blew out his knee in Atlanta?

I'm pretty sure Scott Boras can't make Prince Fielder leave. If Prince wants to play for the Royals, it's Boras' job to try and negotiate the best contract with the Royals. Boras doesn't control Fielder. Fielder will most likely stay in Milwaukee

Right, what he's getting at is that the dollar amount(5+ million annually) is low because they're buying out years that he's under team control, for the most part.

I think 2008 Braun is a little closer to what we'll see going forward than 2007 Braun. This is what happens when he doesn't OPS 1.400 against LHP. His production probably won't be too much different to Ramirez, but without the positional premium. Essentially, he'll be in that "not quite awesome" tier of outfielders like the ones he's currently close to in OPS, the Carlos Lees and Raul Ibanii of the world.

Thanks for the assist TT.

Braun had ridiculous offensive #s last year, but it wasn't close to the best rookie season ever because he was historically bad in the field. Braun should improve in LF, but he's lost a lot of value with the position change.
