DFA all the way. He doesnt want to go to the pen, and hed do just as much damage there. This is the time of year that hes supposed to be good, so I dont want to know whats going to happen in June or July. Send him anywhere for anything. Let Gallagher, Marshall, and Hill if he can shape up in Iowa compete for his spot.

One is in the minors and one is (to my knowledge) still in the rotation.

Sent to the pen is my choice. Unless, of course, someone is stupid enough to trade for him. Otherwise put Gallagher in the rotation for a couple of rounds until Hill gets his stuff back. Seeing what Sean has a starter would be much more valuable than watching Marquis suffer.

Just toss Marquis to the back of the pen and let him be the longman. At least then when he pitches it will usually not matter how bad he is.

From Paul Sullivan in the Tribune today:

Marquis (1-2) has an earned-run average of 5.08 after six starts, allowing 43 hits and 15 walks in only 332/3 innings. He's not in any imminent danger of losing his spot in the rotation, but Marquis will have to start showing some consistency or begin looking over his shoulder

I love this organization.

Convince the Angles he can turn it around and trade him for a B Prospect and pay some of his salary.

Like this..."We're excited about moving Gallagher into the starting lineup but we have to find out a way to make room."

I know he and Lou don't have a great history. You've gotta think Lou will move him down soon.

The Yanks call up a starting pitcher from the minors and he throws a 2 hit 6 inning game. The Cubs call up a starting pitcher and they throw an old 5+ ERA guy and put the young guy(s) in the pen.

I'm not a fan of Marquis, but the Cardinals did get lucky last night. If I'm not mistaken all 6 hits against Marquis were groundball hits through the infield - the hardest hit balls were outs. He likely only gives up two Runs without all the damn walks.

It certainly is annoying that retreads get longer leashes on competitive teams than young guys, but that's all of baseball, not just the Cubs. Anybody that tries to claim this as a problem specific to this organization doesn't know baseball very well.

This makes no sense. If the hard hit balls were outs, then didn't the Cubs get lucky? And he only gives up 2 runs without all the walks? So, we are throwing walks out for one pitcher while we have another in AAA for walking people? I know the rest of your post said something about retreads, but that makes this part make even less sense.

Likewise, Marquis was incredibly lucky that Duncan's blast in the first was snagged by Lee. That would have scored two runs, easily.

Pujols also hit a rocket that turned into a DP.

I love the part of that quote that says he needs to be more consistent. Consistency is not the problem. He has been bad in at least 4 of his 6 starts, and had a lucky night in Colorado considering all the fly balls he gave up. It's not like he's been alternating back and forth between good start and bad start.

I don't get it. In spring training it seemed like he had one foot out the door. What happened? How did he go from that to having a leash so long that it probably has a place in the Guinness Book of World Records? With Gallagher, Hart, and Marshall (and even Lieber), I was so confident that Marquis would be removed from the rotation at the first sign of trouble. This organization hates making sense.

Pay his entire salary and give him to the Cards. Let him help us by blowing games for them.

He'd pull a 1984 Rick Suttcliffe if this happened.

Agreed. They'd inject him with some Pixie Dust or something...

If he hadn't already failed in that organization, I would share this prediction.

Thats the problem all the damn walks. He couldnt retire the 2 journeymen before Pujols, and that was game.
