Which awful contract would you rather have?

Zito has 5.75 years and approximately $112 million remaining

Soriano has 6.75 years and approximately $124 million remaining ("only" made ~10 million last year)

I would rather have Soriano's and if I did I'd fly you all into Wrigley to watch the game!

Or, if you meant which player I'd rather have on the Cubs, it would be Soriano even though I think Zito, being left handed, may have more value at the end of his contract.

Soriano can have a bad game and the Cubs can win (as has happened already a lot this year)

Zito is basically a guaranteed loss whenever he pitches

So I'll take the Fonz

that is an amazingly bad way to come to the right conclusion

That's not the only reasoning, but it's easier than finding a crap ton of numbers that also say Soriano is better than Zito.

Soriano is a much less terrible value than Zito is considering money, position and production.

If the poll was asking which PLAYER you'd rather have I'd say Soriano. However, it asked which CONTRACT you'd rather have, so I said Zito's simply because it expires sooner.

I interpreted it as which player would you rather have, and for me the choice between an 18mil/year LOOGY and a left fielder with a cannon arm who put up a .900 OPS last season was a no brainer. Soriano can be bad. Really bad. But the good more often than not outweighs the bad. There isn't enough good in the world to outweigh Zito's bad.

This isn't particularly close. 1 year and $12m more for a guy that put up a near .900 OPS last season v. a mediocre or worse starting pitcher? In the last year or two, Zito's may look better b/c it's about to expire and Soriano could be really, really bad at 37. But today I can't see why anyone would take Zito in the rotation or the pen over Soriano in LF.

I'm an idiot and misread the question. :x

I would take Soriano over Zito, but i accidentally voted for Zito . #-o

I also think, between the two, Soriano will be the easier to move later on. He's very good right now and should stay that way for another year or two. Zito, on the other hand, is bad right now and likely will only get worse.

I could see a Ned Colletti/Wayne Krivsky-type manager biting on Soriano in a couple years hoping he still has something left (assuming he stays healthy). Zito will likely go the way of Denny Neagle and his monster contract, though.
