We just won with Wood.

Again.

Pishaw. Haven't you read the topic? We can't win with Wood. It must have been Marmol or Howry in a no. 34 jersey, since they're both more experienced.

You have a 2 run lead and you cant throw strikes? What a joke.

He "just threw strikes" to Kennedy and Ankiel. It's not that simple. Oh well, we lost to an inferior team. It happens, we even lost a few games to the Pirates.

I think this was a double whammy today... Wood cost the Cubs the game and cost himself a spot on the All Star team.
Not at all. One game does not make or break an All-Star bid. He will either make or not make the team based on the entire season, not one game.

I completely disagree. There has to be a cutoff point somewhere, and one game can easily make the difference. His ERA went up half a point and his save percentage dropped, so that can definitely break an All-Star bid.

I'm more a fan of the all star game than most around here, but I'll be far from crushed if he misses the game. Give him a few days off. That's been the only positive of Marmol's 2 week meltdown.

He still has All-Star worthy numbers even with today's performance. I'm not saying he's definitely going to make the team. But if he doesn't it won't be due to one performance. It will be because they need the spot for a player from another team due to the representative from every team rule. That situation would be the same with or without today's stinkfest.

Wood only has so many bullets left, I am fine with him not throwing any meaningless pitches.

The rosters are announced tomorrow. I'm sure Clint Hurdle pretty much had his roster set before today's game. I don't think this one game will do anything for Wood's status as a possible all star.

I agree with that. I'm just saying that, if he doesn't make the team, it will be because the spot is needed for a representative from another team, not because of today's outing.

I doubt he makes it. We have three guys going for sure. Plus maybe Z or Demp. Plus there are many teams that suck, but have decent closers. Plus you know Hurdle has to take Buchholz off of his own team in that same spot. I say good, give Woody the days off.

Again, I agree with that logic. I'd prefer him to get the rest too. I'm just saying that it won't be because of today's game if he doesn't make it. It will be because the spot is needed for a player from another team anyway.

Sham one out save today, with the bases loaded in a high pressure situation.

Shammity sham sham.

Getting Phillips to foul out instead of strike out was sort of shammy.

Anyone know how Prior is doing? I keep waiting for him to pitch and for some reason I don't see him on an active roster even though I was told many times he'd be back soon by many posters. Maybe Budhouse wasn't the only poster that was wrong and we should bring those threads back every time Prior is on the DL.

The optimism surrounding Prior was natural as a result of positive reports (which turned out to be false/wrong) from bloggers last year early in spring training. Once he actually went out on the mound throwing in the mid 80s, you would've been hard pressed to find too many posters optimistic about Prior in 2007.

The desire to keep Prior around last offseason was based on the thought that we should take a flier on him in case he ever were able to recover. I highly doubt anybody was confident in that actually happening, although there was mild optimism because they had supposedly found "something" in his shoulder during the surgery. He went on to have further unfortunate setbacks in his rehab and another surgery. There's really no 'I told you so's' to be made.

The reason you found yourself in so many debates about Prior was because you repeatedly made (essentially) baseless claims that he was on steroids. Pitchers don't have to be former steroid users to break down. Just ask Dusty.
