From the current SI article ... Yahoo LINK

Kosuke Fukudome knew enough history to recognize that he was not joining a dynasty. He realized that the Cubs were in the midst of a difficult stretch. But a difficult century? For some reason, team officials had neglected to mention this little detail in the three-plus years they had spent scouting and courting him.

...

Four months later, sitting in the coffee shop of a downtown Chicago hotel, Fukudome came clean. "I had no idea it had been 100 years," he said through his interpreter.

Welcome to the party, big guy.

I liked the article. Made me like Kosuke even more. I loved the bit near the end where he was transcribing an entire conversation between Theriot, DeRo and Ward to try to accelerate his English-learning.

He doesn't know our history?

He's dead to me

It may take someone that doesn't know the history...doesn't know he's supposed to suck and be buffoonish, and crumble at clutch time, to turn this ship around.

He could've just been saying that... Athletes play dumb all the time: "Oh, you know, we're not paying attention to what [team B, who they desperately need to lose] is doing. We're just going out there and trying to win games"

Institutional culture change. I find it hard to believe our dramatically improved patience throughout the lineup up is merely coincidence. Kosuke has some wicked mojo working for him. I wonder how you say Goat Slayer in Japanese?

I thought the Cubs were supposed to be delivered by a left handed phenom?

I was watching the History Channel and they were talking about Nostradomis (sp) and did mention "A man of the Far East whom arm is of the south will break the curse of the goat after a Cent of time after the ivy turns brown".
