It's a bummer that Marquis is allowed to suck at the major league level, but two wrongs dont make a right. If Hill throws 50% strikes at the major league level, he's going to get rocked.

he was 57% or so overall, 50% on fastballs (apparently). he was 60% strikes in his first start.

My main concern with having Hill called back up now is that he'll be more time with Rothschild. That seems to be inevitable, though.

If the problem really is mechanical, and it sounds like it is, I think it's a good idea to have Hill work on it in AAA where the results dont matter as much as the fact that he's working in game conditions.

It's a bummer that Marquis is allowed to suck at the major league level, but two wrongs dont make a right. If Hill throws 50% strikes at the major league level, he's going to get rocked. Let him work that out in Iowa and in the meantime someone throw Marquis off a bridge.

I agree completely (other then the throwing Marquis off a bridge comment :D). Hill probably is at least close to being one of the Cubs 5 starters right now (he probably is on productivity, probably won't be on how deep he can get into a ballgame considering every team for a while is going to try to wait him out). I'd rather keep throwing him in AAA, let it get worked out, become the #2 starter again, and then come up. Pitching him in the majors right now is probably going to result in some more short starts, and that's going to cause a longer adjustment period for him.

That doesn't preclude you from replacing Marquis though, who definitely is not one of the top 5 starters in the Cubs organization right now.

Piniella got his cranky on during the radio pre-game interview and said that the #1 priority was shoring up the rotation, which they'd be doing over the next 7-10 days.

According to the broadcast, he apparently left with "some sort of physical problem." No details yet.

If there's an injury, at least that explains the loss of command.

All we can hope for is that it's nothing major.....

There was a recent article in which Hill talked about how he was struggling to keep his arm up. I can't find it for the life of me.

Still no update on Hill, by the way.

He's not throwing strikes.

and a non-strike throwing rich hill is better than a strike-throwing jason marquis.

this is a facetious argument as we all know there is no such thing as a "strike-throwing jason marquis"

pffft

He throws tons of strikes. Opposing batters usually mash the heck out of 'em.
