I've been informed that indeed, the Cubs brass do read this website and have promoted Matt Murton. No word on who is getting sent down. Kidding about the Cubs brass reading this website, but our pal Steve Holley at Inside the Ivy is the one giving me the news and he's with the team currently in New Orleans. We can only assume it's Eric Patterson being sent down.

Murton isn't in Iowa's lineup right now.

This probably means that Pie has definitely lost his job, at least for the time being, and that Lou finally realized picking Fontenot's bat over Murton's isn't a good idea.

Did they bring up Eric just to play against Corey? I'm joking, but one could assume it's true.

It may have been just a nice gesture. They did take a cab back to the hotel together after the game.

And on a somewhat-amusing side note, I don't know if they showed it on TV, but when Eric came up to bat the first time Dunn motioned over to Corey in center and pointed at Eric up at the plate. Corey took a few steps back towards the wall and motioned for Dunn to back up too. It was pretty funny.

That's kind of what I initially thought was the reason for his call up over Murton after thinking about the reasons why. When you think about it, it sounds exactly like something the Cubs would do

If this is true it means Lou is already done watching E-Patt swing at crap in the dirt just like Felix. Felix makes Lou angry, and he has to keep him until they get another CF.

Does this mean, Murton will play tomorrow? Hoping so.

That's hilarious.

UPDATED: 10:50 p.m.

Cubs Special Assistant to the General Manager Gary Hughes confirmed that Murton had been recalled following Iowa's 5-2 win over New Orleans Friday.

"He was called up," Hughes said as he was leaving the visitor's clubhouse.

No other roster moves are known at this time. Murton was a late scratch from the initial starting lineup in Friday's game between Iowa and New Orleans. The lineup change was announced roughly one hour before the scheduled 7:05 p.m. (CT) start.

If that's true, Lou is as dumb as some Cub fans.

As long as Soriano is out, and as long as DeRosa keeps hitting well, it sounds like Murton becomes the fourth outfielder.

More than likely it means DeRosa moves back to second base and Murton starts, at least this weekend.

I think Murt will begivn left, at least for now, with D Ro back to 2nd.

Lou should give this lineup a shot

1. Kozuke

2. Murton

3. Lee

4. Ram

5. D Ro

6. Soto

7. Theriot

8. Johnson

9. P.

Looks better than anything in the NL.

4. Ramirez

5. Fukudome

6. DeRosa

Why does this mean Pie has lost his job? Did Murton suddenly morph into a CF'er or something?

Murton better pray to God he goes something like 6-8 at the very least the next couple of games, or else Lou is going to bench him or send him back down.

funny thing is...murton could go 8 for 8, all home runs, and he would still get sent back down

No, but Johnson is playing quite well...

Yeah, friggin Lou will probably bench Murt when Soriano gets healthy. What a moran.

You're actually assuming that Murton will get to start games while Soriano is out. Just listened to Lou on the pre-game show. Sounds like Murton will be coming off the bench.
