let's be honest, i hate a lot of cubs fans. marty isn't that far off in his assessment. the whole "they'll lose the division because they're the cubs" thing was really lame. but him saying that cubs fans are the most obnoxious isn't that far off.

But every fan base has obnoxious tools. If the Cubs do have more than most other fan bases, it's only because they also have a bigger fan base to sample from.

Agreed. I also would contest the idea that almost all of the idiots are in the bleachers. The vast majority are, but the percentage of idiots in other areas are higher at Wrigley than other parks I've been to. This was confirmed by my experiences this week.

I'm not the kind of guy who has to be completely serious at the game and can't stand any drinking. I usually hit the bar for an hour, hour and a half before the game and have a few beers during the game. There are just so many absolute morons at Wrigley that I really don't get as much enjoyment out of it as when I watch them on the road.

It seems like it's really increased since about August '03.

I have very little tolerance for drunk people (all I ever drink at Wrigley is Pepsi), and it genuinely irritates me when people around me at a game are just there to drink and take up space.

But on the occasions that I have been to Wrigley (admittedly far fewer since I moved out of the region), I either have been in the most "civilized" sections, or simply tune the drunks out as best I can, which is easier when I have the game to focus on.

But it does seem to have gotten worse since 2003, when apparently the monkeys realized losing didn't have to be a forgone conclusion, and that they could express their displeasure. I think that not only did the way 2003 went caused this, but how quickly the team went into the toilet afterwards.

Am I the only one who was immature enough to laugh when they said "there are like 40 balls coming in here...there are balls coming from all over the place!"

heh

I also loved how he said that we won't win the division because we're the Cubs and we always screw it up...even though we've won the division twice in the past 5 years.

And I'm willing to bet we'll win one or two more before the Reds get a good look at one.

The Cubs screwing the divison up bebcause there the Cubs comment was ignorant considerign they won it last year.

Don't really think the goal is divison titles though....

What is the goal then? As a Cubs fan I don't know. I blame it on the goat or something...

Exactly. I have been all over the country, and with the possible exception of the Red Sox, the Cubs have the biggest and most omnipresent baseball fanbase, IMO.

At this point I just measure my goals incrementally. (at least when it comes to the Cubs)

I'm not going to lie, the last time I was at Wrigley I was lit. Thank God for the burrito joint underneath the L.

I didn't throw anything on the field, and I sure didn't kick any babies/old people. I had a [expletive] great time. Thank you Budweiser products.

Exactly. When people name obnoxious fan bases, they say Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs. What do those fan bases have in common? Seems to me that the smaller market fans just want to make themselves feel better.

Marty Brenneman is a crank and an idiot. His talentless son isn't much better.

Speaking of throwing things on the field, I seem to remember an incident in which he incited fans to throw radios on such on to the field over a blown call......yes, I found it...

So before he blows his colostomy bag in outrage, he might want to look into the mirror.

Yes, we have alot of moronic fans out there in the bleachers, but when I heard his BS I was pissed off!!!! It's like only I can rip on my family kind of feeling. Marty and Thom are pissy with the Cubs org. in part because when Thom was here he wanted to stay here and do football for Fox as well and the Cubs told him nope, so he left and he has been a bitter little bitch since. BTW Brantley is a major drunk. He alomost got kicked out of a major d-town rest the other night won't be welcomed back. Oh yeah, and were the Cubs and will screw up winning the div we won last year, also sounded like they were pissy about the fans booing Dusty by saying they will have no one but themselves to boo.

Phillies fans are awful, and not among the biggest.

Oh, and it is much easier to tolerate the drunk people when you are drunk with them. I can't imagine trying it otherwise.

I agree, all the balls on the field after that home run was dumb, but Brennamen is an idiot. He says that the Cubs won't win the division because they're the Cubs. Then in the next sentence he says how stupid people are to buy into billy goat curses. Why won't the Cubs win because they are the Cubs then, Marty? It sounds like HE is the moron who really believes in curses. I am happy to say that I don't have to listen to this moron too frequently. He is clearly jealous that the Cubs are so popular and are in a position to possibly have great success this year. Another thing, this all sounds like sour grapes. His beloved Reds finally did one good thing in those first 2 games with a meaningless home run and throwing 15 balls on the field kind of mocked their performance to some extent. Brennaman just wanted to whine and moan about something because his team couldn't win. Boo hoo, sorry for you, Marty. It's just one game, grow up!

Not sure what anything said during that isn't true.

Throwing 15 balls on the field? [expletive].

Throwing back a ground rule double? Stupid.

Throwing trash on the field? Acting like drunk idiots.

There are people out there who are good, solid Cubs baseball fans. I am sure the majority of the people who post here are like that. However the majority of people at Wrigley Field everyday are drunk college kids or tourists that really could care less about the game.

Marty was right on.

Good Lord I love stereotypes. I'm glad you and all other Reds fans (what all 500 of you) will label the majority of Cub fans this way for what maybe 10 other people did. Get off your high horse.

By the way, I hope I see the Reds loser announcers some day so I can give those morons a piece of my mind.

By the way, its crap like this that makes me extremely thankful that we have Len and Bob as our announcers, because you will never hear those two talk crap like this about any other fan base or franchise in general. It's one thing to hate a franchise and take little shots here and there (which, and I can't believe I'm defending those idiot announcers for the White Sox, but you will never hear them openly say crap like this), but to openly say this is frankly embarrassing.

Unprofessional in the extreme. But since the Cubs are broadcast on a national superstation, the standard for impartiality is probably a tad higher, and I am sure that carries over to the Comcast broadcasts.

WHO freaking cares if fans threw balls on the field?

WHO cares if lots of Cub fans get toasted in the bleachers.

We're rowdy people from Chicago. I think Chicago is known for its rowdyness........big deal.

Each team has a stupid tradition, each team has moronic fans.

All this politically correct jargin makes me laugh.

That's why I look at the all important Obnoxious Tool Percentage (OTP) which is simply (# of obnoxious tools)/(total fans).

What a bitter, bitter man. They seemed upset that A) the Reds were getting killed and B) Brantley no longer has a job with ESPN and now he's relegated to Reds radio and at the end of the day nobody really cares about the Reds.

The best part was when they said the Cubs won't win because they are the Chicago Cubs and Cubs fans won't blame themselves for the losses - they'll blame the goat. What the hell?

I'm going to be the "bigger fan" here and take the blame in '03 for booting that sure double play at shortstop in the 8th inning of game 6 of the NLCS. I'd like to hope some of you here take my lead and start taking the blame for past losses, as well...it's the right thing to do??!

I was in Cincy for the clinching game last year when we were roughing them up pretty good. Me and my friends were being very laid back and barely even cheering because we had really crappy seats. That didn't stop some idiot Reds fans behind us from talking about Rex Grossman's superbowl performance non-stop because apparently they assumed we were Bears fans. Funny thing is, we were from Indianapolis and fans of the team that benefited from Rex Grossman's superbowl performance.

That's a pretty good point, considering they're (probably) fans of a team that has made the playoffs once in the last 17 years.
