Soto, obviously. What I'm saying is that Lou should have just put Geo into the game in the first place. He can hit both righties and lefties and there was no reason to waste Pie as well.

 

You get Gordon out of the game and put Soto in a favorable situation. I don't have a problem wasting Pie. We're on the road, so we're not hoping to go to extras. You have to play for the lead. I thought it was a great move by Lou to get Soto an at-bat in the best situation.

 

Here's a question? Would people be this up-in-arms about the move if it were Fontenot used instead of Pie? I know Fontenot was already used, but what if he weren't. Would you still think it was a stupid decision?

 

Maybe not as much, but yes. It's a stupid move to just waste a player like that. It's overmanaging. Soto is already in a favorable position because Tom Gordon is a 40-year-old, slightly below average pitcher. There was no need to put Pie in the game solely to get Geo to face a lefty.

It's because they have six outs to work with while the Cubs have three. If it was a tie game at Wrigley going to the bottom of the eighth, the Cubs would have the better chance to win.
