i just want to say that i really really really hope lou does keep giving pie the majority of the starts in center...because if not he is pretty much wasting away right now...and if they are going to continue to dick around with him then not putting him a deal for roberts would seem to be a bit silly at this point...

unless they are hoping to hang on to him until the deadline and use him for a deal

after last season...i just get worried that lou is going to bench him again...

since hendry and co decided to hang on to him...let the boy play...just let him play

theriot on the other hand...yikes...i just stand behind him and hope that his days at the top of the order really are over...

Cya Pie. You didnt produce the first 4 games, so now you are on the bench, you can thank your dumbass organiztation and manager.

OMG THE SKY IS FALLING, I hate to say this yet again but its 5 games into the season. If we should give up on Felix Pie after these 5 games then might as well send Soriano and Ramirez packing as well and while we are at it Lilly didnt pitch great, he can go as well along with Wood and Howry.

Pie is almost like the hitters version of Rich Hill, Hill couldnt do crap at the MLB level till one day he decided he could and did. im not saying that Pie will eventually do this but he seemingly has the talent to do it. As was said before if he is hitting 240 in june then things might need a change but judging by the first 5 games is [expletive].

He wont be around by June, if Lou has anything to do with it.

Well if he doesnt start to produce by then he doesnt deserve to be here, hell if he is still slumping and being an instant out by the end of this month then send him back down.

Pie is producing better than other starter including Soriano. Baseball is a long season, it is more than ridiculous to judge him based upon 4 games. Especially since the guys has done nothing but produce at every level he has been at so far.

He has been given 4 games and now sitting out 2 games in a row against RH pitchers. All so a guy who has a career .710 OPS agasinst RH's in over 1500 ab's can start in place of him. Pie should be starting every game against RH's and some agaisnt Lh's, plain and simple. If Soriano and Aram produce you can live with Pie in CF playing great D. I think its telling that Pie has been benched for 2 games, so a guy with less talent than him can play, but yet we have a SS who hasnt produced, but we dont get to see him benched in favor of his backup...

Yes, I know. I didn't say it was broken -- just sore enough that they're holding him out.

It would be the absolute wrong move to have him gut it out through pain in his hand, putting additional pressure on him if he doesn't perform. I'm surprised they let him play the day after that.

What can I say? Sometimes I hear things through email. Nothing I would put a tremendous amount of faith in except for the fact that it seems really logical.

It does seem logical but what seems more logical from the Cubs is he didnt produce for 4 games so we are playing the veteran

And what seems even more logical is that - based on your comments - you are hell-bent on making a logical leap and concluding that the Cubs have given up on him, in spite of the fact that:

- He was beaned and is hurt

- The Cubs did not and have not pursued another everyday CFer

- He has been the starter in CF since Day 1 this season

- The Cubs outright refused to trade him this past offseason, even though evidence suggests that including him in a package with other players would have greased the skids in the Roberts talks.

I'll buy into the injury theory. The Cubs had chances to trade Pie but they didn't, so I don't see them giving up on Pie after 5 games. He'll get a grace period, but not for a whole season. Hendry will not sit idly if he thinks Pie might cost him his job. When you have a selfish GM who is desperate to win immediately everybody is on a short leash.

Thats being pretty unfair and unrealistic. You're telling me, even as fan, that if the trade deadline rolls around, and we are neck and neck with Milwaukee and Pie is still not producing you would say "no we shouldn't try to upgrade there, let him learn" and leave a weakness in your lineup for the playoff run? And as for the selfish comment, judging by the Cubs payroll, I'm guessing he's under pressure to win. So therefore he's selfish for trying to do what his superiors demand of him (AKA HIS JOB)? You seem to expect a hardworking guy to say "Oh I can't possibly build a proper team, its best I just leave a job I've worked a long time to earn as it can't possibly be whats best for the team". Try realistic expectations sometime, they're really swell.

I like this part a lot. I was at the game where Hill decided he could pitch at this level and it was awesome.

What IMO leads further credence to the injury theory is that he didn't play at all yesterday. I fully expected Lou to bring Pie in when the Cubs took the lead as a defensive replacement. When he didn't, that was one of the reasons that I speculated why that would be.

Yeah he's selfish. He got a contract extension through the 2008 season and proceeded to give out big backloaded deals that balloon in size in 2009. Do you really think that's a coincidence? I'm sure he won't hesitate to do it again if Pie flops. It'll be something like the Dodgers sending a lump payment of $10M along with Juan Pierre. That money would be applied to some other short-term fix. If that fails to save this season it won't matter to Hendry because someone else will have to clean up his mess in 2009.

Rotoworld:

Felix Pie is getting a second straight day off Sunday because of a sore right hand.

Pie played Friday after getting hit by a pitch Thursday, but Reed Johnson has started the last two days. Since the Cubs will be facing lefties in the first two games of the series against the Pirates beginning on Monday, Pie figures to keep sitting.

Here's the thing, and I know this is NOT Felix's fault:

You can't have two position players stinking it up all year and expect to be a contender. Felix's likely year-long struggle will be tolerable if Hendry does something about the SS situation. I suspect he know's this.
