At this point in the season, while I enjoy seeing the Brewers or Cardinals lose, I'm much more focused on just seeing the Cubs win. It's a long season, and all teams will have their ups and downs.

That said, getting out to a good start is very important -- much more than people tend to think. Games in April and May count just as much as those in September.

And they dont have any?? Pujols, Wainwright, Ankiel, Glaus, Yadier, Isringhausen...with Mulder and Carpenter returning, and Rasmus in the minors

they do have a lot of subpar veterans and aaaa players overperforming right now though...specifically say, ryan ludwick and skip racecar

When you're rattling off a list of the team's talents, and the 3rd name on your list is Rick Ankiel(the hitting version) then there's not a lot of talent out there.

he's on track for 34 homers, and is still only 28. he's also obviously got a cannon arm in RF.

And he's on pace to hit below .260, and have an OBP under .300. So, he is essentially Pedro Feliz of the OFer.

And besides, Ankiel is a CF, not a RF.

This is kind of random but speaking of Ankiel, if they were on the losing end in a blowout, would the Cardinals ever consider using Ankiel to pitch an inning to save the bullpen? Maybe one of the resident Cardinal fans could answer this. My editor and I were talking about this a bit the other day and we weren't sure what LaRussa would do.

He must have found a way to get a fresh shipment of HGH.

I think it depends on how his arm feels and how it recovers from the inning. By the way, I've heard through the grapevine that your editor is trying to find out who Spiderman is, is this true?

I don't know if they would want to do that. Would you want to risk messing with Ankiel's head?

Based on the way people talk about the situation around here, and his slump after the HGH stuff at the end of last year, it sounds like the Cards are still very concerned about his mental state and there's just about no way they would try to put him on the mound, even in a blowout situation for a couple of batters. I just think they are so afraid of what being back on the mound might do to him there's no way they would take a chance on screwing up all the progress he's made at the plate.

That's kind of what we figured.

They totally should, but LaRussa especially would never do that unless he volunteered. Loves that quitter like a son.

For what it's worth, as long as he continues to destroy all logical expectations for his performance, I wouldn't risk doing anything to mess it up either.
