No real surprise, but I thought I'd post it:

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Manager Ned Yost confirmed the worst-kept secret in camp this morning when he announced that right-hander Ben Sheets will start on opening day against the Cubs in Wrigley Field.

Sheets has been on schedule all spring to pitch in the opener but Yost likes to play it safe and wait until the end of camp. He also told us that veteran right-hander Jeff Suppan will pitch the second game of the season in Chicago on April 2.

I thought Dempster was the #3 with Lieber or Marquis the #5

That maybe so, but I would feel more comfortable with Lieber as the #3 over Ryan Dempster.

Eh. Rotation order doesnt matter at all really, especially not after the first time through. Everyone pitches every 5 days regardless of where they are in the rotation.

But yeah, Lou has already said the rotation is going to be Z/Lilly/Demps/Hill/ and then either Lieber or Marquis.

The Brewers are one of the best matchups for Dempster. He has significant splits with right and left-handers, and so the Brewers heavily right-handed based lineup gives him a better chance of success.

Then again, Lieber is the same way :D.

I haven't seen much lately, but is Dempster still guaranteed a spot in the rotation, with Lieber and Marquis battling for the last spot?
