Not cheap, but not bad. I always stay at the Hilton Garden Inn O' Hare. Shuttle/El to and from airport, shuttle from hotel to El station and back. Not close to any good bars really, but I am also usually with the family.

There's a Days Inn less than a mile from Wrigley that I've stayed in a couple times. The rooms are small, but unless you're going to Chicago to spend a lot of time in a hotel room, it shouldn't matter. I think I paid $120 or so a night last year.

The Sheffield House is really cheap, but you might want to bring your own sheets.

the Sheffield House is a #$%# Hole to end all #$%# holes...we stayed there a couple years ago...there was actual grafiti on the sheets...people had signed the bed spreads...we slept on top of the covers and by 7:00 a.m. the next morning had made arrangements to get a hotel out by O'Hare and take a cab back into the game.

Thanks for the help....

Have you ever heard of the Hotel Cass?

I stayed there a couple of years ago and should have brought my own sheets.... I guess it just got torn down not too long ago...

is this sheffield house worse than that?

we are just looking for a place to crash at night... won't be spending any real time in the room.

also flying into Midway if that helps anyone... hotels on the orange line?

My stay wasn't as bad. The shower was horrible, but the room wasn't too terrible. I did bring my own sheets and brought some spray to spray down the carpets and bedspreads. I needed a cheap place and that was it. It was nice being about a block and half from Wrigley.

It didn't get torn down, they recently finished rehabbing it.

Yeah...we didn't dare try to shower...I mean...with the garbage still in there...seriously...when we were there it was AWFUL.

The Days Inn is by far the best place to stay that is close. It's a Days Inn, but is the nicest one of all of them, wins all sorts of awards, etc. Fun area, lots of restaurants and bars around there, and no more than a mile to the park. It's a nice walk when it's nice out, or a really short cab ride.

If you want to stay in the area, stay there. If you don't stay downtown, but you generally will coin up.

Be sure to try pricelining a downtown hotel first.

I'm not sure what the budget here is, but most of the downtown hotels of note are very good, and close to everything. I know they are pricey--but that's why you try pricelining them.

A couple on topic questions as I'm looking at options for my trips to Chicago this year...

1. Is Midway in a decent area? Whether I fly into O'Hare of Midway, I'd like to stay somewhere near the airport.

2. If so, can anyone recommend a couple good hotels nearby that 1) have easy access to the El and 2) aren't too crazy expensive?

Thanks!

I wouldn't say that. Midway (the airport) isn't near as bad as it used to be, but I wouldn't exactly call the area "decent."

I'd probably say that you'd have an easier time getting to Wrigleyville from the O'Hare area than Midway, too.

Cool, thanks. I definitely don't want to stay in some ghettotastic area. I was looking at that area cause flight costs appear to be a little cheaper. Good info to know though, thanks!

Midway is a perfectly fine area. Nothing close to being a ghetto. There's plenty of hotels within a few blocks of the airport/orange line, both cheap and expensive places.

I also disagree that it's easier getting from O' Hare to Wrigley compared to Midway. Midway's an orange line to the loop, then red line to Wrigley. O' Hare you have to go past Wrigley, then come back north after transferring in the loop.

Yeah, you backtrack quite a bit doing ohare to wrigley.

Though I guess I'm thinking kind of narrowly. Blue line to addison then bus/cab (not familiar with the bus routes) to Wrigley wouldn't be too painful.

Thats what we do when we stay at the HGI O' Hare (previously mentioned)

Agreed. I stay downtown every trip. I use Priceline for a four-start hotel or better on Michigan Ave or the Loop and rarely pay more than $100 a night. I've had a suite at the Omni for $70 a night.

I then walk to the El and take it to the park. Plus, downtown is a great place to be when you aren't at the ballpark.

As Soul said, I don't know your budget either, but with three of you dividing the cost (I assume), I think you are better off going an extra $15 or so per guy (as opposed to getting a questionable room for $60 somewhere) and staying in a great place downtown.

I am the biggest idiot. The dates I chose happened to be the same day when a big convention is in town. (May 29-31). I'm so screwed. It's looking like I either stay in Deerfied and take the Metra (which I'm not to familiar with. Even with that I think one of my tickets is a night game and I'm not sure the Metra goes that late. Or sell my tix on E-bay, chose a different day and buy from scalpers. Anybody have an extra bleacher ticket for the NSBB meet up.

If I were you I would try to stay as close to Wrigley as possible. This is just my opinion, but if your at a game all day and then possibly hanging out in Wrigleyville for a couple of hours afterward, the last thing your gonna want to go through is a commute to your hotel. I feel like you will get a lot more out of your weekend if you can stroll out of the park and hit a few bars on a walk back to the hotel. The Days Inn is near Clark and Diversey. Easy walk on a nice day.

Metra is fine, they have trains going all the time. On weekdays, they run all-night and weekends, their last train leaves Union Station at 12:35 AM, which gets to Grayland (the closest stop to Wrigley at prob. 12:50 AM.)

As far as Metra to Wrigley, many Cubs fans do that. Most take the bus from Grayland to Wrigley, some take cabs.
