Oh, and on topic - I don't care. Dozens of people are shot every day across the country (and state) and no one puts patches on their hats for them. So it was more concentrated this time...okay. It was terrible what happened at NIU, don't get me wrong. But - the Cubs have no obligation. Furthermore some "token gesture" made in Mesa wouldn't mean much anyway.

how far out is it?

a little over 70 miles

So it's akin to saying that North Tejas is in Dallas or Tejas A&M is in Houston, I see.

it's far enough west that it's not even considered a suburb anymore

There's nothing but 70 miles of pasture and trees between College Station and Houston. Did you really think TAMU was in Houston? You do realize that it's about 60 miles from Houston to Galveston, right?

I lived there from 1999-2003 and visit friends frequently. It has bascially become Napverville west. You have alot of folks moving there because you can get a nice ass house for under 200K. Alot of people do the DeKalb to Chicago work commute everyday. I think it is very much a suburb.

Man, I miss tuesday nights at Molly's.

46 people died in plane crash in Venezuela last night. I haven't heard anything about any sports teams wearing patches with the power to heal the emotional wounds of family members, or any patches at all for that matter. This is a disgrace. Sports should be ashamed.

Troll bait? Is that what it is? I can't even read it.

I'm glad the Cubs aren't doing anything. Anything in Spring Training is not going to be noticed and doing it on opening day is almost ESPN like. With false sadness to get attention to themselves not the tragedy.

how will the dead ever cross over to the afterlife without the cubs wearing a patch on their spring training jerseys while playing pepper

Tributes that anyone does to help the grieving should be welcomed. My girlfriend attends NIU and was walking across the street when everything happened, and she was very much shook up over the incident. However, I know that time will help her over come the terror that she had when she heard that there was a gunman on the lose and everyone was running, but I also know that events like these shake kids foundations. It is very difficult to understand why people do the things that they do, and it is equally as easy to group indiviudal together and become scared of everyone. When teams/indiviudals/groups/politicians/and the media put out a tribute for the fallen it helps them realize that not everyone in the world is bad, and that there are still that are there to protect them.

Should there be more done by teams and groups alike? That is their choice, and if they chose not to, that is just fine as well. However, to be offended when a team does make a tribute is quite confusing to me. Yesterday I was watching the Bulls game when they came out in the NIU shirts, and my girlfriend was passing the TV, at that moment she stoped and smiled. As I am sure it did for others who were involved. So yes it may not fix things, or make the path to the afterworld any easier for the ones who passed, but it might make a girl smile for a second durring a griving stage. If the world did more of this, maybe there would not be as much shootings as there are.

Is Aramis fake hustling while wearing a patch really even a tribute?

the Cubs are terrific at honoring the memory of the dead. I mean, they honor Harry Caray's passing every day by allowing second rate celebrities to sing the stretch and then hock their latest straight to DVD movie. i shed a tear every time

ap reports god not allowing slain NIU students into heaven due to noncompliance by the cubs with his strict "wear a patch policy"

[i find the perception that Harry's "legacy" is being "tarnished" with the celebrities is contrasted by Harry spending booth time during his last game with Tom-freakin'-Arnold. MY GOD, WHAT HAVE LOST?

I've primarily been a lurker since the switchover. Do we really not have an ignore feature anymore?!

Go to user control panel, then to friends and foes. The people you put as your foes is the ignore list.
