This made me laugh. Rather than talk about Jeter's fielding, they'd rather talk about this as being the reason he's a great defensive shortstop.

"It's ridiculous," said fan Jay Ricker, 22. "Jeter is all-around awesome. He's better than A-Rod any day. Character has a lot to do with it. He's out there for his teammates, not just himself. He does it for the good of the team. That's the kind of guy you want on the field."

You could add "of ESPN's Baseball Tonight" after the name of every person quoted in that article and I wouldn't think twice about it.

I think you missed the second page. That's where the best quotes are.

Ricker added that "A-Rod's only out for the money. For him it's not about baseball, it's just about banking."

Fans said Jeter's greatness goes beyond the numbers he produces on the field.

"He has intangible qualities that can't be measured with statistics," said East Village bar owner Kevin Hooshangi, 28.

"He's the ultimate teammate. It doesn't matter what his percentages are when he's making big plays in big games. He's the one with four World Series rings."

"I would disagree [with the study] of course, Jeter does a good job," said Pam Lips, 28. "Rodriguez is OK but I would take Jeter over A-Rod."

HAHA, that's the dumbest argument ever that people make. Ken Griffey, Jr. never won or even played in a World Series, so does that mean that Lenny Harris, who HAS a World Series ring, is better than Junior?

Wasn't Jeter's contract the biggest contract ever handed out to a shortstop at the time that he signed it?

Yes, but that doesn't matter. He's a team player, you see.

And he's sooo clutch.

And he plays the game for the game and for his team. He's not selfish and only playing for money like A-Rod.

A-Rod's contract was December 2000, Jeter then signed his extension (based on A-Rod's salary) in February 2001. Jeter had originally agreed to a lower deal a year earlier, which the Yankees backed out on when Juan Gone declined the Detroit contract.

Jeter is adequate defensively, but I don't beleive he is the worst. He will be shifting positions in the next two or three years.
