has angelo been criticized yet for the fact that the bears didn't draft a qb in 2009 mock drafts?

Not sure about that, but I'll guarantee Steve Young has his 1001 reasons why the Bears and Grossman suck all ready to go for the '08-'09 season

The more Steve Young talks the less esteem I hold BYU law

Rex Grossman numbers when he came back from being wrongfully benched:

75 comp

136 att

911 yards

3 td

1 int

80.1 rating

Also sacked 16 times in 5 games, actually 4 not counting the Washington game.

Awful just Awful

Grossman's stats period

122 comp

225 att

1411 yards

4 td

7 int

66.4 rating

Also 2 fumbles.

I like Beanie Wells more than LeSean McCoy but that's me.

I do too. But I'm weary of big backs like Beanie. He's Eddie George with more speed. While George had a nice career, he took a lot of hits at the next level and had a short span as an elite RB.

In other words....no QB, outside of Ryan, proved to be a significant upgrade over what the team already has. To take a QB, because that is viewed as a "need", when it's really not, would be doing a disservice to the team. Take RB who will play immediately, or a QB who will sit for two yrs, and isn't really an upgrade of Grossman/Orton. Give me, the RB who will play, and provide a upgrade over the current RBs, over a QB, who would be at best a equal QB in terms of talent. Angelo wasn't impressed with any of the QBs, so why force youself to take a QB, when there is a player you want is still available. If there was a QB they wanted who was available, and still didn't take (the closest was JD Booty), I would be dissapointed.

So, taking a QB, because everybody is "screaming" for you to is ridiculous. If Angelo listened to the fans, then the Bears would have ended with with a Leonard Pope, Mercedes Lewis, over Greg Olsen. I'm going to trust Angelo on this one.

I completely agree with this. And I think more Bears fans will be on board once the season starts.

But in the mean time, we have to do with people that take Jay Mariotti as a genius.

Seriously did you read that column? What a steaming pile of crap.

Ozzie Guillen had the right idea, if the wrong expression.

I decided about a year ago to no longer read any of his columns that had anything to do with anything OTHER then Mark Cuban. my hope is his readership will drop soooo low that the Trib will only print his Cuban stuff

What about the rest of the NFC North?

I fear the improvements that Minny has made, Detroit is still gonna be terrible, and Green Bay is basically the same team without a HoF QB.

What I don't get is why the Bears are not considered "contenders" and yet Minnesota is? Both should have outstanding Defenses (if anybody remembers, the Bears have the CORE OF THEIR DEFENSE back again. Even tho they struggled under Babich the 1st yr, I expect major improvement in yr 2.). Both have questionable offense. Minnesota has basically a RB, and nothing else. Berrian won't be effective, as long as Jackson can't complete a pass over 10 yrds. Even tho he isn't great, but I take my chances on Grossman and his recievers over Jackson and his recievers.

There is not one team in the NFC North, I fear. In fact, my bold predeiction will be...the Bears winning the division by two games.

I hate Jay Mariotti to the point that I actually wish him some sort of harm. Not major harm but like a broken ankle or him losing his job.

I just try to ignore him. Eventually he'll screw up and say something that so many people find offensive, he'll be canned.

I wonder if FS Taylor Mays will be around late 20's early 30's :D

If the crop of S in 09 is deeper than this year, that sounds good to me.

This is not true. The biggest difference between the 2 teams is that Minnesota has a good, solid, proven O-line, something that remains a big question mark for the Bears. They will be able to run the ball and just hope Jackson can be "good enough" to get them some wins.

Only if we plant a story that can get him arrested. In which case, I recommend we get him arrested right before the USC-UCLA game. :)

There's a lot of safeties, but yeah Mays has Laron Landry size and skills and he went 6th, so unless the Bears suck this year or trade up, they aren't gonna get him.

That's true, but you counter that with APete being the ONLY offensive option, and it becomes a wash, about their line. I have a feeling that Minny will play ALL THREE QBs next yr.

not to mention Minn's oline is overrated - terrible at pass protection

A better line and APete is their only weapon, whereas the Bears have a mediocre line and no weapon.
