Marcus Monk drafted here in the 7th. Another possession WR.

The next Donald Driver, YES!!!

j/k 8-)

Fixed. I had the wrong guy, but they drafted a WR too. So there you go.

Marcus Monk:

Strengths:

Has excellent size and a large frame...Long arms...Very athletic and smooth...Big, reliable hands...Good ball skills and body control...Excellent leaper...Knows how to use his frame...Is strong and tough...Very smart...Can be a terror in the red zone.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't have top game speed...Will have trouble separating from pro corners..Not very quick or explosive and lacks a burst..Needs to improve as a route runner...He offers very little after the catch..Is not a big play threat and won't stretch the field vertically..Questionable motor / effort...Not much of a blocker...Durability concerns.

These nosebleed picks are the best time of the draft. ESPN keeps playing that Monday Night Football music, and there's like 30 ppl left in the building.

Whoohoo! 7th rounders!

Fun.

Mario Urrutia drafted here in the 7th. Another possession WR.

Edit: Nevermind. That was Cincy's pick.

Bears selected Kirk Barton (OT, Ohio State)

which they need to. the O-line needs talent and depth. I still think the pick for Steltz would have been better served as a OG.

I like mendenhall but only an illinois fan places that much stock in mendenhall who couldnt beat out pierre thomas.

who also plays on sundays and torched the bears for 100 yards rushing and receiving. we're all going to see why thomas and mendenhall shared carries at illinois.

We probably won't. Peirre racked up the yards because the Bears were crushing the Saints and were content to let them dump the ball off all game. He's a solid player but he's probably not going to get a whole lot of playing time this year.

there's really an excuse for anyone racking up yards in any game. but thomas put on one of the best performances of anyone all year in that game.

I would agree, Mendenhal is the better back, but what would it have taken for the Bears to get him after Williams? My guess is at least a 2, 3, 3, 4 draft picks. I just dont think that would have been in the Bears best interest.

Bears just signed SIU QB Nick Hill for 3 years at around $1.3 million.

Awesome for Nick. A couple breaks to go his way and he might even be playing this year :)

tell me about this guy, and his needed breaks...

Smart, accurate QB. His decision making was awesome last year as his TD/INT ratio was off the hook. Completed nearly 72% of his passes. Not the best arm in the world, but he'll get the job done.

I know the Bears really liked him a lot and they were all over him almost the entire offseason.

the Czar gives the Bears an A, best in NFC with Atlanta

Hmm, I thought Philadelphia had one of the better drafts in the league. Arizona had a decent draft as well.

Of course, all of this really doesn't matter as giving out draft grades when none of these guys have played a snap in the NFL is completely mindless. Let's give it 2-3 years before we start handing out grades for this draft class.

your just bitter cuz he gave the Pack a c+ lol

in all honesty, it is impossible to grade a draft with any believable accuracy so soon, but its fun to do. O, I found a Q&A with Hill, his fav team growing up was the Bears, but he loved watching Farve....

Agreed. In the sort run, Forte should outproduce Mendenhall, simply because Forte is going to start, and Mendenhall has to split carries.

Long term, I do see Mendenhall being better.

With that said, the Bear absolutely needed to address the OL before they could even consider drafted a RB. IMO, I like the combo of Williams/Forte in the 1st two rounds. I think alot Bears fans will come to just enjoy watching Forte play, to be honest.

I also like the fact that the Bears went SEC crazy in the draft. Williams/Bennett/Harrison/Monk/Steltz. It wouldn't surprise me if ALL made the Bears come September.

I am lurking on the KFFL boards and people are just embarrassing themselves there like they do every year.

News Flash: The Bears probably aren't going to, nor should they, draft for need in the 5-7th rounds. Everyone is wetting their pants over not drafting a guard in the late rounds. Well, they drafted Beekman in 4th last year and people treat him like he isn't even on the team. Most of these late round guys are going to make absolutely no impact. They didn't draft Woodson because he sucks, gang.

People are blowing their tops about drafting a DE in the 7th round? Fire Jerry! We need a guard! Every year it's the same reaction, it's great comedy, I'll tell you that.

Yeah, they do every year. I prefer the General and NFL Draft forums there to the Bears one; it's like a Cubs game thread on draft day.

I like the Bears draft (which probably is a *bad* thing), there were a few guys I'd prefer rather than who were selected. But they were all guys I still liked and who probably wouldn't have been around for the next round.
