does Chad Johnson really want to go from Carson Palmer throwing to him to Rex Grossman? i don't see that ending well

why not? and who says it will be Grossman? it very well could be ORton.

either way, I think people make a bigger deal out of the QB pos then is really needed. Johnson would GREATLY improve a position we need improving.

i don't think you can make too big a deal about the QB position in regards to a WR, as the WR is rendered completely useless when the QB can't get the ball to him.

well, I fully believe Grossman is more then enough of a QB to get the ball to Chad Johnson.

so, I still get the daily Fanball email from my fantasy league this past fall. in it this morn, I found this:

Bears: Walker wants to remain a Bear

The News

The Chicago Sun Times reported Tuesday that the agent for defensive tackle Darwin Walker made it clear his client expects to return as a Bear, but that might be wishful thinking.

Our View

Walker is due a $5.2 million roster bonus on March 4 after an injury-plagued season. His salary-cap number for 2008 is $6.5 million.

Bears: Bears doing homework on Faneca

The News

The Bears have been doing their homework regarding seven-time Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca, according to the Chicago Sun Times. Faneca, who turned 31 in December, is looking for a deal similar to what Steve Hutchinson and Eric Steinbach commanded the last two offseasons.

Our View

The Sun Times reported it might cost upward of $7 million per season to land the former Pittsburgh Steeler. But if the Bears added Faneca and drafted a tackle high, it would dramatically reshape the line.

Bears: Bears consider signing Booker

The News

Marty Booker told the Chicago Sun Times he wants to go home. A day after the Miami Dolphins released the veteran wide receiver the Bears are considering signing Booker, 31, before he fields other offers. Bears general manager Jerry Angelo traded Booker to Miami for defensive end Adewale Ogunleye before the 2004 season.

Our View

Because Booker is a vested veteran, he is eligible to sign before free agency opens at 11:01 p.m. on Feb. 28.

Feneca would be a nice addition, although pricey. good to see Angelo not ignoring the line finally.

Say NO to Feneca! Isn't he already 32? The last thing we need is to make our line even older. No thanks, especially not at the asking price.

If Faneca is looking for Hutchinson or Steinbach money, I'd have much preferred Hutchinson or Steinbach the previous two offseasons. It'd still be in the Bears interest to at least give him a long look despite his age and the likelihood of a decline.

Say no to Faneca!

IDK, for me, it would depend on what kind of contract they could get him for.

Also what other type of OL help you can get in free agency (at a cheaper price, of course).

Faneca just turned 31 in december. I have no problem with signing him at the right price, but his contract is going to rival those of Steinbech and Davis.

Count me in as being on the Booker bandwagon actually. I have no problem bringing him back to do the job that Moose hasn't been able to do. He's 31 as well, and caught 50 passes last year on a team with worse QB problems than the Bears had.

I would put Max Starks, Scott from Indy, and Gross and Wharton ahead of (another aging) Faneca

Oh wow. For some reason, I thought Gross was a RFA. He's unrestricted, as is Wharton. Bears should be all over one of them. Wharton can play G and T.

Gross is most likely going to sign a long-term contract with the Panthers. I would love to have him, but I don't see that being a possibility. Max Starks is my number 1 priority this offseason for the Bears. He's young, will be cheaper than Faneca ( I assume), and would play LT so we can move Tait to RT for next season. Starks would be a perfect fit for the Bears, hopefully Angelo goes after him.

That might be the order I'd take them too. But I've always been under the assumption that Gross and Scott would be signed by their current teams. Starks is a guy that will likely have a huge price tag, but has been an underachiever most of his career. He was good in the SB season, but has been lackluster otherwise. I believe Faneca can still give a team another 2 years as a top 5-10 guard in the league. What happens after that, is anyone's guess.

You get one OL thru FA and early in the draft and that line becomes good again. One of teh dumber things the Bears did last year (there were several) was not put Beekman into any games, now we still have no idea how he would do going into next year.

Yes, that pissed me off.

And I agree with your strategy...and if you get a good OL in FA, you can avoid using the first rounder on OL and wait till round 2.

I'd still get one in the 1st, but probably look to trade down.

True. I'll just hope Clady falls to 14. It'd be like Tommie Harris falling to 14. :)

You are reading my mind. Clady would be one of our best case scenarios.

I like Feneca, but paying him alot of money for 2-3 years and drafting oline heavy. I wouldnt lock him up for 6-7 or we will be in the same mess we are in right now.

I would love to get Clady @14, and I might be the only one here who thinks thats very possible

Anybody that disagrees with this should talk to Steve Smith.

Don Banks of CNNSI.com posted a mock draft today. Here's his Bears pick:

14 QB Brian Brohm Louisville Sr. 6-3 225

Opinion varies greatly on whether the Bears will go with a quarterback in the first round, and Brohm doesn't currently carry a first-round grade on every draft board. But the Bears can't go through another status quo year at quarterback, and the free-agent pickings are pretty slim. Unless the Bears have a strong conviction about a passer in the second round, we're giving them Brohm over an offensive tackle like Otah or a defensive tackle like North Carolina's Kentwan Balmer.
